Florida State’s 2026 path just got an ugly label attached to it: On3 has pegged the Seminoles with the toughest schedule in the ACC.
That’s not exactly the kind of distinction Florida State was hoping for, but it does set the stage for a season loaded with pressure points. The Seminoles open with New Mexico State, then move straight into a heavyweight run that includes SMU, Clemson, Miami, Louisville, and 2025 ACC runner-up Virginia.
The challenge doesn’t stop inside the league, either. Florida State is also scheduled to travel to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama and later host Florida, giving the nonconference slate plenty of bite on top of the conference grind.
The biggest issue for FSU is how quickly the difficult games arrive. There’s only one tune-up before conference play begins, and by Week 3 the Seminoles are already headed to Alabama. After a brief home game against Central Arkansas, the schedule tightens again with the heart of ACC play waiting right around the corner.
For a program coming off consecutive losing seasons, that leaves very little margin for error. Florida State enters 2026 with plenty to prove, and this schedule won’t let the Seminoles ease into anything. Every major matchup becomes a chance to show real progress since last November - or to revive the same questions that have hung over the program for the past two years.
Here’s how the full slate lays out:
Saturday, August 29 vs. New Mexico State - Tallahassee - 7:00 p.m. ET on The CW
Monday, September 7 vs. SMU - Tallahassee - 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

FSU Baseball Just Added Another Huge Honor For Its Ace
Florida States baseball program keeps stacking recognition beyond the box score, and this latest round of academic honors only reinforces how much the Seminoles have valued balance in the clubhouse. Alongside a group of teammates earning All-ACC academic recognition, Wes Mendes again found himself at the center of attention as one of the sports most decorated all-around players, with the on-field rsum to match the classroom work.
The broader athletic department also had reason to celebrate, as Florida State softball placed 11 players on the Academic All-ACC team for the 2025-26 season. For a program that has long sold itself on competing at a high level without sacrificing academics, the list is another reminder that the standard in Tallahassee runs well past the weekend series and into the classroom.
