Florida State turned a tight first quarter into a runaway Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium, rolling past Virginia 38-7 behind a record-setting day from quarterback Ashton Daniels.
Daniels powered the Seminoles with five rushing touchdowns, breaking Florida State and Doak Campbell Stadium single-game records. He piled up a career-high 136 rushing yards and also completed 12 of 19 passes for 183 yards as Florida State improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC.
The Seminoles scored 38 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0, and the numbers told the story of how thoroughly they controlled the game. Florida State finished with 464 total yards to Virginia’s 205, ran for 281 yards, averaged 7.1 yards per play and held the Cavaliers to 37 rushing yards. The defense also delivered 10 sacks and kept Virginia off the board on 12 of its 13 drives.
Florida State’s offense found plenty of help around Daniels. Senior running back Quintrevion Wisner posted 106 all-purpose yards, including 60 receiving yards and 46 rushing yards. Junior wide receiver Micahi Danzy led the team with 70 receiving yards on four catches, while sophomore running back Ousmane Kromah added 80 rushing yards on 17 carries.
On defense, junior linebacker Chris Jones led the way with six tackles and 1.5 sacks. Fifth Year linebacker Mikai Gbayor also finished with six tackles and a sack.
Virginia grabbed the only points of the opening quarter and carried a 7-0 lead into the second before Florida State answered with a 98-yard march in eight plays. Daniels helped spark that drive with a seven-yard run, then hit Danzy for 22 yards to cross midfield. From there, he connected with Wisner on a 48-yard screen pass and finished the series with a four-yard touchdown run to tie it 7-7 with 11:48 left in the half.
The Seminoles’ defense immediately flipped the field. Virginia went three-and-out after sacks from sophomore defensive linemen Kevin Wynn and Mandrell Desir, and freshman wide receiver Jasen Lopez followed with a 31-yard punt return to set up Florida State at the Virginia 33.
Florida State made that field position count. The Seminoles leaned on the run, using six rushing plays in seven snaps before Daniels scored again from three yards out for a 14-7 lead.
Before halftime, Florida State added another scoring drive, going 60 yards and finishing with a 44-yard field goal from fifth year kicker Gabe Panikowski to make it 17-7 at the break.
The second half belonged to the Seminoles’ front and Daniels’ legs. Jones stuffed a fourth-and-one run to force a turnover on downs, and Florida State answered with an eight-play, 78-yard drive. Daniels completed three straight passes, then broke off a 20-yard run to set up first-and-goal at the Virginia 15 before scoring his third rushing touchdown of the day to stretch the lead to 24-7.
That was only the beginning. On the next scoring possession, Daniels ripped off a career-long 81-yard touchdown run to make it 31-7, his fourth rushing score of the afternoon.
Florida State’s defense kept the pressure on, forcing turnovers on downs on Virginia’s next two possessions and piling up five sacks over those two stops.
Daniels finished the day by putting the exclamation point on it with 3:41 left in the fourth quarter. Wisner and Kromah helped push the Seminoles to the Virginia 1-yard line, and Daniels punched in his fifth touchdown to seal the 38-7 win.

Mike Norvell Bought Some Time But Florida State's Real Test Starts Now
Mike Norvell got the kind of result Florida State badly needed in Week 5, as the Seminoles turned in a dominant win over Virginia and showed clear signs of progress after a difficult stretch to begin the 2026 season. It was the sort of performance that can quiet a restless fan base for a week and give a coach a little breathing room, especially after the way the last two seasons have gone.
But one convincing afternoon is not enough to settle anything for long. Norvell and his staff still have to stack wins and prove the improvement is real against the better opponents still ahead, because the next run of games will go a long way toward determining whether this surge is a turning point or just a temporary pause in the pressure surrounding his future. Florida State Just Delivered The Dominant Win Fans Needed
Florida State got the kind of statement win it badly needed, and it came with Ashton Daniels doing something no Seminoles quarterback had done before. Daniels ran for five touchdowns in a 38-7 rout of Virginia, a performance that gave the offense a jolt while the defense controlled the game from start to finish. The win moved Florida State to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, a much-needed step after a shaky start to the season.
The bigger message may have come from the other side of the ball. Florida States defense piled up 10 sacks and left Virginia with almost nowhere to go on the ground, limiting the Cavaliers to 37 rushing yards on 40 carries. For a team trying to build momentum and steady itself in league play, it was the kind of complete effort that can change the tone around a season, and it leaves the next question squarely in front of the Seminoles: whether they can carry this level of dominance into the weeks ahead. Miami Just Made An Early Statement The ACC Can't Ignore
Florida States narrow win over Virginia gave the Seminoles a needed early boost, and it came in the kind of game that can say a lot about a teams temperament. In a league already trying to sort out its pecking order, Miamis emphatic win over Clemson has only sharpened the focus on every contender around it. The Hurricanes looked dominant on both sides of the ball, while Florida State will be watching closely to see how much room there is to build on a win like this before the schedule starts asking harder questions.
