Florida State is heading to Boston College with the same message ringing through the week: bring the edge, bring the fight, and bring enough left in the tank to finish.
Coach Rick Stockstill made that plain after Wednesday’s practice, framing the road trip as a test of physicality and grit for a Seminoles team trying to stop a three-game slide. The word of the week was toughness, and Stockstill didn’t soften the point.
“I told the team this, you go on the road, you got to pack your toughness because who you're playing,” said Stockstill.
He expanded on that theme by pointing directly at Boston College’s identity.
“You know, they (Boston College) pride themselves on physicality, that lunchbox mentality that they have. So, we got to bring our toughness,” Stockstill said. “So, I think it starts with the toughness part of it and then just playing with phenomenal, relentless effort that when that game's over, you couldn't go one more play because you ain't got nothing left.”
Florida State needs the result badly. The Seminoles are trying to get back on track and keep alive hopes of salvaging a winning or bowl season, but the task comes with a thin roster.
As many as 12 players are listed as out for the game, including receiver Duce Robinson, who tore his ACL in the loss to Clemson and is done for the year. Running back Tre Wisner is listed as questionable.
That leaves Amari Thomas as the only ball carrier on the roster with game experience. Ousmane Kromah and Sam Singleton Jr. already went down for the season earlier in the year, leaving Florida State short on proven options in the backfield.
The pressure on quarterback Ashton Daniels is just as clear. He leads the conference with 11 interceptions, so ball security has to be at the top of the list.
The Seminoles cannot afford reckless throws or a quarterback trying to do too much. The cleaner path is getting the ball to the perimeter and letting playmakers work.
That means feeding Jayvan Boggs, Michai Danzy and Jasen Lopez in space and trusting them to create after the catch.
Defensively, Florida State wants the same kind of tone Ernie Sims has been pushing since fall camp. The Seminoles need to arrive at the football with what Sims called a “violence of action,” and that effort has to show up snap after snap.
Boston College quarterback Mason McKenzie is the player Florida State has to keep in check. He has 2,088 yards of total offense, 13 total touchdowns and seven interceptions. But Duke held him to just 111 total yards in a 47-2 loss, a reminder that when McKenzie is contained, the Eagles can stall out fast.
Stockstill, a Florida State man who came up under Bobby Bowden, now has the authority to make the necessary schematic and personnel calls to put the best 22 on the field for the final stretch. The margin doesn’t matter nearly as much as the result.
Winning is winning. And for Florida State, this road trip is about resetting the right way and playing the Florida State way.

FSU Leadership Search Just Got More Expensive Than Fans Expected
Florida State has turned to Parker Executive Search to help guide two of the most important hires in the athletic department, locking in a firm that will handle both the athletic director and head football coach searches. The school agreed to pay $175,000 in flat fees, plus reimbursable expenses, for a process that comes with a detailed scope of services, a payment schedule and some built-in protections for the university.
The contracts also give Florida State a measure of flexibility if the search needs to change course, with termination terms that vary depending on when the school backs out. There is also a notable safeguard in place if a hire does not stick, since Parker Executive Search will provide a free replacement search if that person leaves within 18 months, a clause that underscores how much is riding on getting these decisions right. Florida State Just Gave Its Interim Defense Some Needed Veteran Help
Florida States coaching reset has reached the defensive side of the ball, where the Seminoles are leaning on experience to steady things after a turbulent stretch. With Rick Stockstill elevated to interim head coach following the firing of Mike Norvell, the program has also brought in former head coach Paul Pasqualoni as a defensive analyst, giving the staff another seasoned voice as it tries to regroup.
Pasqualonis arrival is meant to support interim defensive coordinator Ernie Sims, who was recently promoted into the role and now has to help guide the unit through the rest of the season. For a team trying to keep the locker room pointed in the same direction, the move adds a layer of veteran leadership at a moment when Florida State can use all the stability it can get. [Read more 🡒]
Jameis Winston Just Took On A New Role In FSUs Reset
Jameis Winston has found a new way to stay tied to Florida State, this time off the field and inside the programs support structure. The former Heisman Trophy winner and current New York Giants quarterback has joined the Seminole Boosters Board of Directors, giving the school another prominent voice as it works through a broader reset around its football operation.
The move comes as Florida State sorts through major changes after firing Mike Norvell, with interim coach Rick Stockstill guiding the team into its next stretch of games. It also comes alongside a new partnership between the university and its NIL arm, Battles End, a sign the Seminoles are trying to tighten the alignment around the program while leaning on familiar faces who still carry weight with the fan base.
