Florida State will take its men’s basketball team to Jacksonville on Dec. 20 for a non-conference meeting with Houston in the Jacksonville Hoops Showdown.
The game is set for VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, though the opening tip and broadcast details have not yet been announced. Intersport, a Chicago-based marketing agency, is organizing the event. Florida faced Miami in the 2025 edition.
“Games like this challenge our team, help us grow, and prepare us for the level of competition we expect to face throughout the season,” Florida State coach Luke Loucks said in a statement. “It's also a great opportunity to connect with our Seminole fans in Jacksonville and throughout Northeast Florida. We know they'll create an incredible atmosphere, and we're looking forward to a great game versus a competitive opponent.”
The matchup comes in Loucks’ second season after he went 18-15 in his debut and 10-8 in the ACC. Florida State has reshaped its roster in the offseason, adding several transfers, including former Florida High guard Anthony Robinson II after his move from Missouri and former McDonald’s All-American Shon Abaev from Cincinnati.
Houston arrives with plenty of recent hardware and a familiar place in the national picture. The Cougars were the national runner-up to Florida in 2025, then finished 30-7 in 2025-26 under Kelvin Sampson before falling to Illinois in the NCAA Sweet 16.
Florida State’s most recent men’s basketball trip to Jacksonville came in November 2021 at the Jacksonville Classic, when the Seminoles beat Loyola Marymount and Missouri. The program also beat Jacksonville University 87-63 in Tallahassee on Dec. 22, 2025.
Houston leads the all-time series 4-2 and won the latest meeting 82-67 on Dec. 6, 2025.
A one-day ticket presale starts at 11 a.m. on Oct. 20, with the public on-sale beginning at 11 a.m. Oct. 21.

Former Florida State Standout Gets Another Shot With The Cowboys
The Cowboys are giving Jashaun Corbin another chance, signing the former Florida State running back and moving on from Dominic Richardson. Corbin has been in and around NFL rosters before, including practice squad stops with the Giants, Panthers, Falcons and Patriots, and he also spent time in the UFL as he kept chasing a longer look.
