In the vast landscape of Texas high school football, talent runs as deep as the state itself. For college programs looking to bolster their rosters, the Lone Star State is a treasure trove of gridiron potential.
The Florida State Seminoles, like many others, are keenly aware of this. While they currently have only one Texan, quarterback Kevin Sperry, on their roster, there are a few uncommitted playmakers who deserve a closer look.
Brian Swanson, Offensive Tackle, South Oak Cliff
Standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing 315 pounds, Brian Swanson is a force on the offensive line. His versatility allows him to excel at both guard and tackle positions, and his athletic prowess extends beyond the football field into track and field, where he has impressive personal bests in the shot put and discus.
South Oak Cliff, a powerhouse in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has consistently been a contender in state championships, and Swanson has been a key part of their success. Gabe Brooks of 247 Sports highlights Swanson's big frame, athleticism, and strong hands, noting his ability to dominate opponents and seek out additional blocks downfield.
Swanson’s balance of a high floor and ceiling makes him a prime candidate for a high-major program. With 36 offers already in hand, Florida State would be wise to make him number 37.
Colton Nussmeier, Quarterback, Flower Mound Marcus
Colton Nussmeier, brother of LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier and son of Saints' offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, is no stranger to the football spotlight. Despite a knee injury shortening his junior season, Nussmeier still managed to rack up 15 touchdowns and over 1,600 yards of offense.
In his time as a starter, he has thrown for over 3,300 yards with 33 touchdowns against just four interceptions. Hudson Standish from 247 Sports praises Nussmeier’s swagger and precision, noting his ability to make anticipatory throws and manage the quick game with sharp mechanics. If he stays healthy, expect his recruitment to skyrocket as more programs vie for his talents.
Julian Reese II, Athlete, Palo Duro High School
Julian Reese II is the kind of athlete who turns heads under the Friday night lights. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Reese is a standout in multiple sports, showcasing his elite athleticism in baseball, basketball, and track.
On the football field, Reese is a dual-threat, excelling as both a quarterback and a defensive player. He amassed 3,500 yards of offense and 42 touchdowns, with a completion rate of 68 percent.
On defense, he added two interceptions to his resume. His efforts earned him the District 2-5A DII MVP honors.
As the Seminoles look to strengthen their recruiting class, currently ranked 23rd nationally, these Texas talents could provide the boost they need. Coach Mike Norvell faces a pivotal 2026 season, and securing commitments from players like Swanson, Nussmeier, and Reese could be a game-changer for Florida State.
