Florida State is stepping into a Friday-night spotlight again, and this time the Seminoles are starting a stretch that will put them there three times this season.
FSU heads to Louisville on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN, opening a run of unusual scheduling that includes a road trip to Pittsburgh on Nov. 13 and a home finale against Florida on Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving. The Seminoles are 3-2 overall and 1-1 in ACC play, while Louisville enters at 2-3 and 1-2.
For Mike Norvell, the short week is part of the deal. The Florida State coach called Friday night “a great showcase,” even while making clear he prefers not to live on the road with limited recovery time.
“I don’t love the road, short week games. We got a couple of them this year.
We got a great plan to make sure our guys are going to be ready to roll Friday night. But then the benefit of it is the stage, being able to go and be in a very competitive and hostile environment against a great team.”
The turnaround has been quick after FSU’s 38-7 win over Virginia on Saturday. The coaching staff held a “correction meeting” on Sunday, the players lifted weights, and the Seminoles skipped practice. Then, on a day that is usually reserved for rest, they were back on the field Monday morning.
That kind of scheduling has become part of the ACC’s push into Friday games. The league played 12 such games in 2025 and has expanded to a record 15 this fall. Miami has already logged a pair of Friday wins, beating Stanford and Wake Forest in September.
FSU is one of several ACC programs taking on three Friday games, along with SMU, Louisville and Virginia Tech. Norvell said that much Friday football creates extra strain behind the scenes.
“To do it three times in a year is a lot,” Norvell said. “We came into it understanding some of the things that we have to do creatively with the schedule, make sure we’re doing all things, taking care of guys’ bodies.”
The move toward Friday nights isn’t just about exposure; it’s also about inventory. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said in July, “There’s so much compression on Saturday. Everybody can’t play on Saturday anymore.”
The TV numbers help explain why leagues keep leaning into the slot. ESPN’s highest-rated Friday broadcast in 2026 was Miami-Wake Forest, which drew 2.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen.
Fox has also had success with Friday windows, including Northwestern-Indiana at 3.8 million viewers. Missouri-Kansas and Houston-Texas Tech both topped 3 million.
Florida State, though, has been especially strong on Fridays. The Seminoles’ September 2025 game against Virginia drew 4.39 million viewers and peaked at 6.9 million, making it the most watched ESPN Friday game in nearly 30 years, according to Nielsen. FSU’s November 2025 game against NC State drew 2.1 million viewers.
Even in 2026, with the program coming off two losing seasons, the numbers have stayed robust. More than 4 million viewers watched FSU-SMU, a game delayed by lightning and a power outage before starting late on Labor Day. The Alabama game pulled 7 million viewers and peaked at 8 million, though that one was also delayed by lightning.
The latest individual recognition for FSU came after Daniels’ big day against Virginia. Ashton Daniels was named ACC quarterback of the week and Davey O’Brien quarterback of the week after rushing for a career-high 136 yards and five touchdowns while throwing for 183 yards. His five rushing scores set an FSU record and matched the ACC record for touchdowns by a quarterback.

Kam Taylor Has A Huge Chance On Florida States New-Look Roster
Florida State heads into the 2026-27 season with a roster that looks almost nothing like the one before it, and that gives Kam Taylor a real opening to make an immediate impact. The transfer from UNC Asheville arrives in Tallahassee with a reputation for athleticism and playmaking, plus the sort of scoring rsum that suggests he can handle a major role right away.
With 12 newcomers set to make up much of the Seminoles new-look group, the early chemistry questions will be as important as any individual skill set. Taylor should be one of the most watched names when Florida State opens exhibition play against Mississippi State on Oct. 10, because the Seminoles will need to find out quickly who can help shape this roster into something cohesive. Micahi Danzy Just Framed Florida States Biggest Test After That Win
Florida States latest conference win did more than push the Seminoles above .500 in 2026. It also gave the locker room a reminder of what can happen when the team stays locked in and keeps the bigger picture in view, and Micahi Danzy was quick to point out that the challenge now is handling the moment without letting it get too big.
Danzys message fit the mood around the program: enjoy the result, stay grounded, and keep building confidence as the season moves forward. For a team trying to turn one good night into lasting momentum, the next stretch will be less about celebrating the breakthrough and more about proving it can carry over. [Read more 🡒]
Ashton Daniels Just Put Florida States Offense In A New Spotlight
Ashton Daniels breakout against Virginia did more than add another convincing win to Florida States rsum. It pushed the Seminoles offense into a new conversation, with the quarterback landing on the Davey OBrien Great 8 and the Midseason Watch List after a performance that paired efficient passing with a relentless ground game in the 38-7 rout. Daniels completed 12 passes for 183 yards, ran for 136 yards and helped the Seminoles control the game from start to finish.
The bigger takeaway is how quickly Daniels has turned one big afternoon into national recognition, while also giving Florida State a clear centerpiece for the stretch run. He was named ACC Quarterback of the Week after setting multiple school and conference marks, and teammate Andre Otto also drew league honors as ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week. The numbers from that Virginia game will get plenty of attention, but the real question now is how high Daniels can keep raising the bar. [Read more 🡒]
