Florida State coach Mike Norvell said Wednesday that Chuck Kennon is no longer part of the Seminoles after the freshman cornerback was arrested Monday and later appeared in court on multiple charges.
Norvell spoke during his weekly media availability as details continued to surface from the investigation. According to WCTV, Kennon faced charges of false imprisonment, aggravated fleeing to elude, and resisting an officer without violence. A judge set bonds totaling $8,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim.
“He’s no longer a part of the program,” Norvell said. “Obviously disappointing, but there are standards and expectations for our players, for our coaches, for everybody that’s part of the program, and obviously Chauncey didn’t meet those expectations.”
He added that those standards apply across the entire program, including the coaching staff. Norvell did not discuss the specifics of the arrest or explain the dismissal beyond that.
The university had already said Kennon was removed from the team for “conduct detrimental to the team.”
WCTV reported that the incident started around 2 a.m. Saturday when authorities tried to stop a Dodge Durango for speeding.
Troopers said the vehicle sped up, ran a red light, and swerved to avoid crossing traffic before hitting a raised curb. The report said a patrol vehicle in pursuit reached 140 mph while the Durango kept pulling away.
The chase went on for seven minutes before the Durango stopped with a flat front tire. Police identified Kennon as the driver and said he ran on foot.
Investigators later said a passenger told them she asked Kennon to stop "10 times" and let her out because she feared for her life, but he refused.
Kennon turned himself in Monday. At Wednesday’s hearing, the judge also ordered him to remain in Hillsborough County.
The report said the passenger was found “with lacerations to her arm, wearing a bodysuit covered in dirt stains, blood, and grass.”
Kennon was the top-ranked signee in Florida State’s 2026 recruiting class. The consensus four-star prospect was ranked No. 51 nationally, No. 6 among cornerbacks, and No. 5 among Florida prospects by 247Sports. He played in one game for FSU, against Virginia.

Mike Norvell's Soft ACC Finish Feels Like A Defining FSU Stretch
Florida States season has reached the point where every game feels bigger than the record itself. With six left on the schedule, the Seminoles still have a path to a winning finish, and that matters because the programs next steps are being weighed with more than just on-field results in mind. Mike Norvell is coaching through a stretch where a soft ACC slate offers a chance to steady things, even as frustration from the fan base continues to build.
The larger conversation around Norvell is no longer only about this fall. University leadership has to account for the cost of any major move, including his buyout and any potential staff changes, while also judging whether the program is showing enough progress to justify patience. In a league that has given Florida State room to finish strong, these last six games may end up shaping not just the season, but the tone of everything that follows. [Read more 🡒]
Florida State Fans Want More Than Words From Mike Norvell Right Now
Mike Norvell spent part of the week cleaning up his language after a heated postgame press conference following Florida States loss to Louisville, but the apology landed against a much larger backdrop of disappointment. The Seminoles have been dealing with real issues on the field, especially a defense that has given up more than 500 yards of total offense in multiple games this season, along with an offense that has not found much consistency.
For fans, the frustration is not about one emotional quote so much as the feeling that the same problems keep resurfacing. The rushing defense has been a particular sore spot, and the bigger concern is whether words in the aftermath of a loss can matter much when the on-field product keeps asking for answers the staff has not yet supplied. Florida State Heads Into Miami With Mike Norvell Pressure Rising
Florida State heads into the Miami game sitting at 3-3, and the timing makes the trip feel bigger than a rivalry matchup. Recent losses have only sharpened the scrutiny around Mike Norvell, with the Seminoles trying to steady themselves against a demanding schedule while questions linger about the defense and the overall direction of the program.
Mike Norvells future has become part of the conversation now, with debate centering on whether hell be allowed to finish the season or whether the school could move in another direction sooner. For a team already dealing with uneven play, the pressure only grows from here, and the meeting with Miami arrives as a test of both the rosters resolve and the administrations patience.
