Florida State continues to stock its quarterback room, and the latest addition brings a championship pedigree and a whole lot of upside. Malachi Marshall, a standout from the junior college ranks, has committed to the Seminoles and will transfer to Tallahassee, giving the program another intriguing option under center.
Marshall, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound signal-caller from Charlotte, North Carolina, made his mark at Iowa Western Community College in 2025, where he put together a season worthy of national recognition. Not only did he lead the Reivers to a national title, but he also walked away with the NJCAA Division I National Offensive Player of the Year honors - and the numbers back it up.
He threw for 2,750 yards on a 63% completion rate, tossing 33 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. He added 120 rushing yards and three more scores on the ground. Efficient, composed, and productive - Marshall checked every box for a quarterback leading a title run.
He didn’t just rack up stats - he racked up accolades, too. In 2025, Marshall was named ICCAC Offensive Player of the Year, earned First Team All-American honors, and posted the highest passer efficiency rating in the country at 179.1.
His 66.7% completion rate during the regular season was the second-best in the nation. Iowa Western finished the job with a 28-10 win over top-ranked Hutchinson in the NJCAA DI Football Championship, after knocking off No.
3 Tyler in the semifinal. Marshall was at the center of it all.
Before his breakout season at Iowa Western, Marshall spent time at Stony Brook in 2024, where he saw action in a reserve role. Out of high school in Rock Hill, South Carolina, he originally signed with the Sea Wolves before taking the JUCO route - a decision that clearly paid off. He drew interest from several Division I programs, including Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, and Northern State, before ultimately choosing Florida State.
With two quarterbacks already added through the transfer portal this offseason, the Seminoles are clearly focused on building depth and competition in the quarterback room. Marshall brings a unique background - a mix of experience, leadership, and proven production at the JUCO level. He’s not just another arm; he’s a winner who’s shown he can deliver on the big stage.
Now, he’ll get his shot in Tallahassee. And while the path from JUCO to Power Five is never easy, Marshall has already proven he’s capable of rising to the moment. Florida State fans should keep an eye on this one - the new guy in the QB room might just have something to say before it’s all said and done.
