Ernie Sims Sparks Florida State Surge For LB Target

Florida State strengthens its position with promising linebacker Gabriel Player, thanks to the dynamic recruitment efforts led by Ernie Sims.

Melbourne, Florida's own Gabriel Player is quickly becoming a hot commodity in the college football recruitment scene, with Florida State zeroing in on the talented linebacker for their next recruiting cycle.

Player, whose recruitment has skyrocketed this year, recently received an offer from the Seminoles. He made his first visit to the Tallahassee campus on Thursday, where he soaked in the vibrant atmosphere and the high-energy practice sessions.

Reflecting on his visit, Player shared, "The experience was great. The coaches were welcoming.

I loved the atmosphere and the intensity of the practice. The coaches were pushing everyone to their limits, ensuring no one slacked off."

Leading the charge in Player's recruitment is FSU linebackers coach Ernie Sims. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 190 pounds, Player has formed a strong bond with Sims, who he describes as having the best relationship with him among all the coaches pursuing him.

FSU envisions Player as a versatile asset, capable of filling various roles within the linebacker unit. "They see me as an all-around guy," Player explained. "Whether it's in the box, on the line, blitzing, or dropping back in zone, they see me fitting in everywhere."

Player's connection with Sims deepened during this visit. "We already had a connection before I came here, and talking to him further showed me his vision for my future and how he can help develop my game," Player noted.

Sims' passion and intensity, even donning cleats during practice, left a lasting impression on Player. "I loved how intense he was.

It felt like he was on the field with the players. When there was a big play, he was right there, engaging with the offense," Player remarked.

Looking ahead, Player anticipates returning to FSU for another visit this summer, with the Seminoles standing out as a strong contender in his recruitment journey. "FSU is definitely up there," he admitted.

While 247Sports has yet to rank Player, his sophomore stats speak volumes: 59 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, and three forced fumbles. The future looks bright for this emerging talent.
