TALLAHASSEE - Florida State fans have reason to celebrate as Duce Robinson, the towering 6-foot-6, 230-pound wide receiver, is set to return for his senior season. After an impressive run as a First Team All-ACC honoree with 56 receptions, 1,081 yards, and six touchdowns last year, Robinson's decision to stay in Tallahassee brings both excitement and opportunity for growth.
Robinson's return isn't just about loyalty to the Seminoles; it's a strategic move to refine his skills and elevate his game. As spring practice kicks off, both Robinson and head coach Mike Norvell shared insights into the areas they're targeting for improvement.
"Duce has an incredible skillset," Norvell remarked. "With his size, he's done an outstanding job conditioning his body.
We're focusing on enhancing his flexibility. He's already a great separator, showing a strong vertical presence downfield and efficiency in the intermediate passing game.
His ability to finish plays with contested catches is impressive."
Norvell emphasized the need for Robinson to adapt to varied coverages and techniques. "People will always be aware of him on the field. He must be efficient with every movement to maximize separation and make an impact post-catch."
Echoing his coach's sentiments, Robinson reflected on feedback from the NFL Draft inquiry process. "The feedback was invaluable," Robinson shared. "They pointed out areas for improvement that are very fixable."
Key areas of focus for Robinson include enhancing his blocking skills and becoming more effective without the ball. "I need to be more consistent and confident at the catch-point," he admitted. "Last year, I bobbled some balls I should have caught, so honing that is crucial."
Robinson is also working on his route-running. "As a bigger receiver, I need to be nimble in and out of routes. It's something you can always improve, no matter how quick you are."
With 35 appearances and 16 starts over three seasons, including two years at USC, Robinson's career stats boast 85 receptions, 1,828 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns. His return to Florida State not only strengthens the team but also sets the stage for an exciting senior season as he strives to reach new heights.
