Florida State wide receiver Duce Robinson has added another preseason honor to his résumé, landing on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award Watch List, which was announced Monday.
The Walter Camp award goes to the best player in college football and has been around since 1967. Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won it last season, becoming the 24th quarterback to take home the honor.
The award’s history has also included 25 running backs, five wide receivers, one wide receiver/defensive back, one tight end and three defensive players. Colorado’s Travis Hunter became the first two-way player to win it in 2024.
Three players have won it twice: USC’s OJ. Simpson, Ohio State’s Archie Griffin and Texas’ Colt McCoy.
The list of defensive winners includes Pittsburgh’s Hugh Green, Michigan’s Charles Woodson and Notre Dame’s Manti Teo. Players from 26 different schools have claimed the award, with USC leading the way at seven.
Oklahoma, Ohio State and Notre Dame each have four. Florida State’s previous winners were quarterback Jameis Winston in 2013 and quarterback Charlie Ward in 1993.
Robinson arrives on the watch list after a breakout season that put him among the nation’s most productive receivers. The Preseason All-ACC selection caught 56 passes for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns last year, making him Florida State’s first 1,000-yard receiver since 2019 and giving the program its 14th 1,000-yard receiving season.
From Phoenix, Robinson finished the regular season ranked ninth nationally in receiving yards. His five 120-yard games were the most by any P4 receiver, second nationally, and the most by an FSU player since 2014. He also averaged 19.30 yards per catch, which ranked second in the ACC behind only teammate Micahi Danzy.
Robinson’s production spiked in league play, where he was a two-time ACC Receiver of the Week and averaged 102.8 receiving yards across eight ACC games in 2025. That mark led the conference and was 12 yards better than the next closest receiver. In the regular season, he also paced the ACC with 17 catches of 20 yards or more, 12 receptions of 30 yards or more and six grabs of 40 yards or more.
His success hasn’t been limited to the field. Robinson became Florida State’s first first-team Academic All-American since 2012 and just the ninth in school history.
This is only the latest in a long line of preseason recognition for Robinson. He was also named a Good Works Team nominee, made the Maxwell Award Watch List and Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, and earned Preseason All-American Second Team honors from The Sporting News.
He’ll be in the mix for another major award soon, too. The Biletnikoff Award Watch List, which recognizes the nation’s top pass catcher, will be announced Wednesday. Robinson was a semifinalist for that honor last season.

Former Seminole Luke Kromenhoek Faces A Defining Turn At USF
Luke Kromenhoeks move to USF has put the former Seminole in the middle of one of the more closely watched quarterback competitions in the state. He is battling transfer Michael Van Buren Jr. for the starting job heading into the 2026 season, and the two bring different backgrounds from previous Power 4 programs, giving the Bulls a pair of options as they sort out the most important spot on the field.
Head coach Brian Hartline said both quarterbacks are competing strongly and pushing each other to improve, which is exactly the kind of pressure USF wanted when it brought in experienced transfers. No official decision has been announced for the season opener, and for now the competition remains open as Kromenhoek tries to turn this chance into a defining step in his college career. Florida State Could Suddenly Get A Familiar Name Back
A familiar name from Florida State basketball is back in the picture, and this one is coming through the courts rather than the transfer portal. Former Seminoles player Alex Steen has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA seeking another year of eligibility, following a recent ruling that gave Class of 2022 athletes an extra season and extended the five-season model to athletes in the Class of 2023 and beyond.
Steens path to Florida State was already unusual, with three seasons at Florida Southern before he spent his senior year in Tallahassee. He had been preparing to move on to a professional career, but the lawsuit has opened the door to one more possible college run, leaving Florida State fans to wonder whether a player who was already headed for the next level could end up back in garnet and gold. Mike Norvell Faces New Pressure After Florida States Latest Poll Snub
Florida States latest preseason AP Poll result landed with a familiar thud, and it comes at a time when the program is still trying to reestablish itself among the sports upper tier. The Seminoles were left unranked in the 2026 preseason poll, continuing a recent pattern that has kept them outside the top 25 more often than not and reinforced how much ground remains to be made up in the national conversation.
For Mike Norvell, the snub adds another layer of pressure entering the season. It is the fifth time in seven seasons his teams have begun unranked, a mark that now exceeds the number of preseason top-25 omissions under Bobby Bowden. With Miami, SMU and Louisville representing the ACC in the poll, Florida State again finds itself chasing league peers before the games even begin. [Read more 🡒]
