TALLAHASSEE -- A Day with DJ Hunter at Florida State
Buford's promising three-star quarterback, DJ Hunter, made his way to Florida State this past Saturday, accompanied by his family. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, Hunter returned to FSU after attending a Junior Day in February 2025. He shared insights from his visit, which stretched from early morning into the afternoon.
"It was nice. I had a nice visit," Hunter reflected.
"This coaching staff really liked me. Welcomed me as soon as I walked in the door.
I liked the practice. High intensity, high energy.
Everybody came with energy. It was fast paced as well.
They threw a lot at them, but they reacted well to it and I liked how they did it."
Hunter spent much of the practice observing the quarterback group in action, including players like Ashton Daniels and Kevin Sperry. He closely watched the dynamic interactions with quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker and assistant coach Jesse Stone.
"Just how hands-on they are with them," Hunter noted about the coaching style. "Getting feedback from them after every play, it really stood out to me.
Just a lot of teaching, like hands-on teaching. Telling them what they did wrong, what they can improve on, what they did good on, all that type of stuff."
While FSU hasn't extended an offer yet, the dialogue remains open. "We talked about it a little bit, but they were mainly just saying like when the time feels right," Hunter explained. The Seminoles plan to watch him throw in the spring.
FSU head coach Mike Norvell has already shown interest, having checked in on Hunter earlier this year. The two had further discussions during this visit.
"He said that he has already seen everything he needs to see from me physically," Hunter mentioned. "He just wants to get to know me a lot more, build a better relationship with me."
If an offer comes through, Hunter is eager to take an official visit to explore FSU as a potential future home. "Yes," he confirmed, adding that FSU remains a strong contender for an official visit despite the current lack of an offer.
Hunter is considering a return visit to FSU before summer. Meanwhile, other schools in the mix include Iowa State, Kansas State, and USF.
Ranked as the No. 43 quarterback in the 2027 class with a grade of 87 by 247Sports.com, Hunter served as a reserve last season behind Dayton Raiola, now at Oregon. As he continues to weigh his options, Hunter’s journey is one to watch in the recruiting landscape.
