Florida State's defensive lineman Darrell Jackson Jr. is gearing up for his professional leap with a newfound sense of readiness. Shedding over 20 pounds to hit a lean 315, Jackson is feeling faster and more enduring than ever.
Standing tall at 6-foot-5, Jackson always had the physical prowess, but his final season with the Seminoles was transformative in shaping his professional mindset. By honing his diet, embracing leadership, and maintaining consistent preparation, Jackson feels primed for his pro day on March 27, a crucial showcase before the 2026 NFL Draft in June.
Reflecting on his journey, Jackson shared, "Leaving Florida State and going to the combine was a dream come true. Tackling each step, from the all-star game to the combine, has been an incredible experience."
At the combine, Jackson gained insights into his capabilities and what NFL teams are seeking. He impressed with his on-field performance, opting to reserve some tests like the bench press for his pro day.
On pro day, Jackson plans to tackle the broad and vertical jumps, bench press, and on-field drills. His decision to drop weight from 337 pounds has him feeling more agile, enhancing his ability to chase down plays with greater stamina.
"I aimed to drop weight from 335 during the season, and at 315, I feel fantastic," Jackson noted. "Being in shape has boosted my stamina and ability to pursue plays."
After initially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Jackson chose to return for another season in Tallahassee. He recorded 45 tackles, three for loss, and a sack over 12 starts, though the Seminoles finished 5-7.
Despite the season's ups and downs, Jackson found the experience invaluable, feeling more equipped for the challenges ahead. "This season taught me so much about myself.
I wanted to be a vocal leader, someone my team could rely on during tough times. Coming back was a great experience, and I have no regrets," he reflected.
With pro day approaching, Jackson is ready to showcase his growth and make his mark on the NFL stage.
