Conrad Hussey Heads to Miami: A Fresh Start for a Talented, Yet Unproven Safety
Conrad Hussey’s college football journey has taken another turn - and this one hits close to home. The former Florida State safety is headed to Miami, joining the Hurricanes after a rollercoaster start to his career that’s been defined by flashes of promise, inconsistency, and a search for the right fit.
Let’s rewind a bit. Hussey came to Florida State as a four-star recruit out of South Florida, a region that’s long been a pipeline of blue-chip talent for the Seminoles.
Expectations were high - and early on, he looked like he might live up to them. As a true freshman in 2023, Hussey played in all 14 games during FSU’s undefeated regular season and their first ACC title run since 2014.
He wasn’t just along for the ride, either. He recorded 22 tackles, forced a pair of fumbles, picked off a pass, and knocked down two more.
His physicality stood out - the kind of edge that head coach Mike Norvell has made a cornerstone of his program.
But in Year 2, things didn’t click the same way. Hussey’s sophomore campaign was a step back.
He played in 10 games but wasn’t nearly as impactful. Missed tackles, poor angles, and a softer approach on the field raised questions.
That physical edge he showed as a freshman? It didn’t show up consistently.
Whether it was injuries, confidence, or just a sophomore slump, Hussey didn’t take the leap many had hoped for.
Still, he returned to Tallahassee for spring ball in 2025, a sign that maybe he was ready to reset and reassert himself. But shortly after, he entered the transfer portal and landed at Oregon State.
His time in Corvallis was brief - just three appearances, enough to preserve a redshirt year. Then, back into the portal he went.
Now, Hussey is headed home - literally. The Miami Hurricanes have picked him up, bringing the former four-star back to the 305.
For the Canes, it’s a low-risk, potentially high-reward move. Hussey has the tools - size, speed, and a nose for the ball - but he hasn’t put it all together yet.
Injuries have played a role, and consistency has been elusive. But if Miami’s staff can tap into the player who made plays as a true freshman at FSU, they might have something.
For Florida State fans, it’s safe to say Hussey’s departure didn’t sting too much. His exit came after a down year, and his transfer to a rival only adds fuel to the fire.
But for Hussey, this is a chance to reboot his career in familiar territory. The question now: can he stay healthy, stay focused, and finally deliver on the potential that made him one of the top safety prospects in his class?
We’ll find out soon enough - and you can bet fans on both sides of the rivalry will be watching.
