Ashton Daniels Keeps Giving Florida State Fans A Real Reason To Believe

Ashton Daniels solidifies his standout season by clinching ACC Quarterback of the Week for the second time, with a record-breaking performance against a top-ranked defense.

Ashton Daniels picked up ACC Quarterback of the Week honors again Monday, giving the fifth-year Florida State signal-caller the award for the second time this season.

Daniels, a Buford, Georgia native, turned in another big outing Saturday at No. 3 Miami, piling up five total touchdowns.

He tied his career high with four passing scores and added a rushing touchdown, his 11th on the season. That run pushed him past the previous FSU quarterback mark for rushing touchdowns in a season.

The numbers around Daniels keep getting louder. He now ranks third nationally with 23 touchdowns accounted for, and he’s the only player in the country with 11 passing touchdowns and 11 rushing touchdowns. Through seven games as a Seminole, he has accounted for multiple touchdowns every time out, including two five-touchdown performances - one against Miami and one against Virginia.

Against the Hurricanes, Daniels completed 15 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns while adding 31 rushing yards and a score on the ground. His last two touchdown throws went to Duce Robinson, and the second one, a 75-yard strike late in the fourth quarter, sent the game to overtime. He also had an 81-yard touchdown run against Virginia, making him the only player in the country this season with both a 70-yard pass and a 70-yard rush.

The performance came against a Miami defense that entered the game ranked No. 1 nationally in scoring defense at 9.8 points allowed per game and No. 5 in total defense at 249.6 yards allowed per game. Daniels’ four passing touchdowns were more than the Hurricanes had given up in their first five games combined, when they had allowed three.

Daniels had already won the award once before after his record-setting game against Virginia. The last Florida State player to claim ACC Quarterback of the Week more than once in the same season was Jordan Travis in 2023.

Florida State Suddenly Needs Amari Thomas More Than Anyone Expected

Florida States backfield depth took a serious hit just as the schedule starts to tighten, with Ousmane Kromah ruled out for the season after surgery on a lower-body injury suffered against Miami. Samuel Singleton Jr. is also expected to miss the next few weeks after getting hurt against Alabama, leaving the Seminoles thinner at running back than they planned and forcing the staff to reshuffle roles sooner than expected.

Tre Wisner is set to step into the starting job, but the bigger storyline may be the opportunity now opening for freshman Amari Thomas. With two key backs sidelined, Florida State needs him to provide real backup support, and how quickly he settles into that role could matter more now than it did a few days ago. [Read more 🡒]

Florida State May Have Finally Found A Quarterback Worth Watching

Ashton Daniels is giving Florida State reason to believe the quarterback spot can be more than a weekly question mark. After accounting for all five of the Seminoles touchdowns in an overtime loss to Miami, Daniels was named ACC Quarterback of the Week for the second time this season, a recognition that says as much about his playmaking as it does about how far he has carried the offense in a rivalry game the Seminoles still came up short in.

The timing matters, too, because Florida State has been looking for steadier production in the biggest moments. While the soccer program keeps rolling with ACC Player of the Week honors for Grace Hoytink and Kate Ockene after wins over No. 4 Wake Forest and Pitt, the volleyball team hit a bump with back-to-back losses to No. 2 Pitt and No. 5 SMU after a four-match winning streak. Daniels breakthrough performance stands out all the more as Florida State sorts through both momentum and disappointment across the fall sports landscape. [Read more 🡒]

Duce Robinson Gives Florida State A Reason To Brag Off The Field

Florida State has plenty to point to on Saturdays, but Duce Robinson is giving the program something even more polished to tout away from the field. The senior wide receiver has been named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, college footballs top honor for a scholar-athlete, a recognition that matches what he has already built in Tallahassee through academics, athletics and service.

Robinson graduated magna cum laude with a 3.90 GPA and has collected multiple academic and athletic honors while also staying active in the community. Finalists for the award receive a postgraduate scholarship and will attend the National Football Foundation Annual Awards dinner, another reminder that Florida States senior class is producing more than box-score value as the season moves on.
