VANCOUVER, B.C. - Tomas Nosek's Journey to 500 NHL Games
Tomas Nosek, the Florida Panthers center, just hit a milestone that seemed beyond his wildest dreams. Playing in his 500th NHL game against the Vancouver Canucks, Nosek reflected on a journey that started with modest expectations.
“When I started in the NHL, reaching 300 games felt like a dream. Now, hitting 500 is incredible. I’m just so grateful,” Nosek shared, clearly moved by the achievement.
Nosek's path to the NHL is a tale of resilience and determination. Hailing from Czechia, he entered the league as an undrafted free agent. After three seasons with his hometown team, Pardubice, in the Czech Extraliga, he signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings in 2014.
His career took him through stints with the Vegas Golden Knights, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils before landing with the Panthers as a free agent in 2024. Known for his role as a fourth-line anchor and faceoff specialist, Nosek has become an integral part of the team.
During the regular season, he tallied nine points (1G, 8A) over 59 games. But it was in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs that Nosek and his linemates truly shined.
With the Panthers trailing the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Second Round, Nosek, alongside Jonah Gadjovich and A.J. Greer, was called upon to ignite the team.
In their first game back, Nosek set up a crucial goal for Gadjovich, putting the Panthers ahead 4-3 in a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory in Game 3. That win sparked a 12-4 run, culminating in the Panthers’ second consecutive Stanley Cup triumph.
Their impact was so significant that head coach Paul Maurice entrusted Nosek, Gadjovich, and Greer with the final shift in the Cup-clinching 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6. Throughout the playoffs, the Panthers led 4-1 in goals at 5-on-5 with that line on the ice.
“He was such a big part of that run,” said teammate Seth Jones. “When that line came in after Game 2 against Toronto, it changed everything. Their physicality, penalty killing, and faceoff wins were crucial.”
Now in his 11th NHL season, the 33-year-old Nosek has accumulated 116 points (45G, 71A) and boasts a career face-off winning percentage of 53.7%. In the playoffs, he’s added 17 points (6G, 11A) over 68 games.
Reflecting on his career, Nosek can’t help but smile. “It’s exciting, and I’m grateful for all the moments and the support from teammates and organizations. I want to say thank you.”
Nosek’s journey from undrafted hopeful to a key player in back-to-back championships is a testament to his perseverance and skill, marking a significant chapter in his ongoing NHL story.
