Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin still hasn’t widened the list of teams he’d accept in a trade, and that’s keeping the situation stuck in place.
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reported that Larkin has not expanded beyond the three destinations that surfaced when his trade request first became public: the Florida Panthers, the defending Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild. That limited field leaves general manager Steve Yzerman with very little room to work.
Larkin holds a full no-trade clause on his contract, a protection that runs through the 2027-28 season. The financial piece makes the ask even tougher. He carries an $8.7 million cap hit through the 2030-31 campaign, when he will be 33 years old.
For Detroit, the ideal return isn’t a pile of prospects. St.
James reported the Red Wings want help now, with a top-line center sitting at the top of the wish list to fill the role Larkin has handled since Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg moved on. Detroit is also looking for a player on a favorable contract, one that would come in cheaper than Larkin’s.
That’s where the market gets thin. All three of the teams on Larkin’s list are pressed against the salary cap, and the Panthers have already added another major contract by acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators just days before the 2026 NHL Draft. Florida has also dealt Evan Rodrigues to the New Jersey Devils.
No club has been officially taken off the board, but with only three teams in play and Detroit hunting for an immediate contributor on a manageable deal, Yzerman’s options look limited.

Matthew Tkachuks Farewell To Bobrovsky Will Hit Panthers Fans Hard
Sergei Bobrovskys exit from Florida had already been the kind of move that lingers around a championship team, and Matthew Tkachuks reaction only sharpened that feeling. Tkachuk made it clear Bobrovsky was a central part of the Panthers recent success, pointing to the goalies reliability and work ethic as major reasons the team was able to turn itself into a champion.
For a locker room that leaned on Bobrovsky through its biggest moments, the loss is about more than just a roster change. Tkachuk said Bobrovsky will be missed and stressed how important he was as a teammate, which is exactly the sort of farewell that lands hardest with fans who watched the two build something special in Florida. Panthers Suddenly Linked To A Star Trade Situation Going Nowhere
Dylan Larkins trade request has put the Panthers in an unexpected spot, even if the whole situation still feels more theoretical than imminent. Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman has confirmed the request, and the backdrop is simple enough: Florida is one of the places Larkin would like to land, but the Red Wings have not seen a package from any of the interested clubs that comes close to what they want.
Thats where the story has stalled for now, with Larkin still under contract through 2030-31 and Detroit holding plenty of leverage. Unless he broadens the list of places hes willing to go, the Red Wings may end up asking him to report to camp, which leaves the Panthers and the rest of the field waiting on a situation that has yet to move in a meaningful way.
