The Florida Panthers have made a strategic move by selecting center Ryder Cali with the 48th overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. This choice adds an intriguing prospect to their roster, with Cali bringing a unique blend of skill and potential to the table.
Cali's draft journey saw him projected around the 42nd mark on average, with some rankings placing him as high as 32nd and others as low as 59th. Notably, NHL Central Scouting positioned him 25th among North American skaters. In the eyes of Daily Faceoff's prospect analyst Steven Ellis, Cali was anticipated to go slightly higher, at 38th overall, indicating a strong belief in his capabilities.
Ellis shared his insights on Cali, highlighting the young player's impressive performance in Jr. A, where he notched over 50 points as a 16-year-old in the OJHL.
Despite a slight dip in offensive output in North Bay this year, Cali's physicality and powerful presence on the ice make him a formidable force. Ellis sees potential for Cali to develop into a solid bottom-six forward if he can enhance his playmaking skills.
With an NHL-ready frame and keen hockey sense, Cali is viewed as a promising long-term project by some scouts.
During the 2025-26 season, Cali showcased his talents with the North Bay Battalion in the Ontario Hockey League. Over 47 games, he scored 16 goals and contributed 20 assists, amassing 36 points.
This performance helped the Battalion secure a fifth-place finish in the Eastern Conference with a record of 38-26-3-1. Cali was the seventh-highest scorer on the team and ranked second among players aged 18 or younger, trailing only Evgeny Dubrovtsev.
In the postseason, Cali added one goal and three assists in 10 games, as the Battalion's playoff run was cut short by a sweep in the second round against the Brantford Bulldogs.
Born in Lugano, Switzerland, and raised in the Cayman Islands, Cali has chosen to represent Canada on the international stage. He donned the maple leaf at the U-18 World Championship, where he recorded one assist in five games. Canada finished second in their group but was eliminated by Sweden in the quarterfinals.
Cali's diverse background and international experience add an extra layer of intrigue to his profile, making him a player to watch as he embarks on his journey with the Panthers.

Panthers Look Ready For Camp But One Problem Still Threatens Everything
After a season that seemed to spend as much time in the training room as on the ice, Florida enters camp with a more encouraging health report than it has had in months. Florida has to get its goaltending situation settled, manage a tight cap picture and finish work on its restricted free agents, all while trying to preserve the roster balance that made last season so difficult to build and so important to replenish. Steve Yzerman has made it clear he would like to keep Kane in Detroit, yet the 37-year-old still has reasons to look beyond a simple return. Kane can chase another bonus-laden agreement if he wants, but postseason opportunity could shape where he lands next, leaving a contenders pitch to help determine whether this latest contract cycle stays familiar or finally breaks in a different direction.
