Carter Verhaeghe wasted no time putting Florida in front Tuesday night, and the Panthers never let Winnipeg get comfortable after that.
Verhaeghe scored twice on the power play, Matthew Tkachuk piled up four assists, and Florida rolled to a 5-1 win over the Jets in Winnipeg. The Panthers were sharp with the man advantage all night, going 3-for-5, while Akira Schmid backed the result with 24 saves.
Florida also got a goal and two assists from Brady Tkachuk, plus a goal and an assist from Niko Mikkola. Sam Reinhart added the other Panthers goal, and defenseman Seth Jones chipped in three assists.
The Jets, meanwhile, kept sliding. Adam Lowry scored their only goal, Clay Stevenson stopped 19 shots, and Winnipeg dropped its sixth straight, falling to 0-4-2 in that stretch.
Florida set the tone immediately with a three-goal first period. Verhaeghe opened the scoring at 7:27 on a power play, stepping out from below the goal line to the left of the net before slipping in a backhand. Then, just 1:15 later, Mikkola’s shot from the left circle deflected in off Winnipeg defenseman Mario Ferraro to make it 2-0.
Verhaeghe struck again before the period was over, burying a one-timer from the high slot with 9:42 left in the opening frame to push the Panthers ahead 3-0.
Winnipeg finally answered in the second. With 7:33 left in the period, Lowry capitalized on a giveaway by Schmid at the left side of the net, circling behind for a wrap-around that barely crossed the line. The call stood after officials in Toronto reviewed it.
That only briefly slowed Florida down. Forty-seven seconds later, Reinhart restored the three-goal cushion with a power-play one-timer from the slot.
Brady Tkachuk finished the scoring with 7:50 left, tipping in a pass from Matthew Tkachuk.
The teams meet again on Friday, when the Panthers host in Sunshine, Fla. The Jets will be on the second half of back-to-back games, with a visit to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Brady Tkachuks Message In Ottawa Adds To A Brutal Panthers Night
Brady Tkachuks return to Ottawa already carried plenty of edge, and it got even sharper once he beat his former club on the scoreboard. The Panthers forward has long been part of the emotional undercurrent in this rivalry, and the night had the kind of feisty feel that tends to follow him whenever he comes back to face the Senators.
What stood out afterward was the way the game seemed to swing hard in Ottawas direction after Tkachuks goal. Senators owner Michael Andlauer said Tkachuk had a message for the bench, and from there the night only got rougher for Florida as Ottawa answered with five straight goals to put the game out of reach. Panthers Catch Winnipeg At A Desperate Time In This Road Test
Florida heads into Winnipeg catching the Jets in an uneasy spot, with a road trip that suddenly looks a lot less routine than it did a week ago. The Panthers are coming off a win over the Blackhawks and now get a club trying to steady itself after a stretch of close losses, all by a single goal, in a season where offense has been hard to find and key players have not produced at the level Winnipeg needs.
The matchup also comes with an added layer of uncertainty for the home side, which has had to keep adjusting as the roster and lineup have shifted. For Florida, it is the kind of game that can turn into a statement road test if it can keep the pressure on a team already searching for answers and avoid letting a desperate opponent turn the building into a factor. Panthers Face A Telling Test As Road Trip Ends In Winnipeg
The final stop of Floridas four-game road trip brings a useful measuring stick in Winnipeg, where the Panthers close out a demanding stretch against a Jets team trying to stop a five-game winless skid. Florida arrives with some momentum after edging the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2, a game that featured contributions from Lars Eller, Sandis Vilmanis, Matthew Tkachuk, Akira Schmid and Seth Jones as the Panthers kept finding ways to stay in the fight.
Winnipeg, meanwhile, is coming off a 2-1 loss to Montreal at the Heritage Classic, so both sides enter Canada Life Centre looking to steady themselves for different reasons. For Florida, the trip-ending matchup is less about style points than whether it can keep its response sharp away from home and leave the West with another hard-earned result. [Read more 🡒]
