Panthers Fans Got A New Look At The Teams Rising Depth

Get ready for an action-packed week as the Florida Panthers prepare for a crucial face-off against the Detroit Red Wings, while their affiliates make waves in the AHL and beyond.

The Florida Panthers get another day to reset before Monday night’s matchup with the Detroit Red Wings at Amerant Bank Arena, and the goaltending picture on Detroit’s side looks a little shaky after John Gibson was tagged for five goals on 15 shots in a 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues. That result points toward former Panthers backup Daniil Tarasov likely getting the nod.

While Florida waits, the Charlotte Checkers are back in action this afternoon, taking on the Iowa Wild at 4 p.m. at Casey’s Center. Charlotte handled Iowa 6-3 on Friday behind a balanced attack.

Jack Devine, Donovan Sebrango, John Beecher and Brian Pinho all finished with a goal and an assist, and Pinho scored his first goal of the season. Sam Lafferty and Brett Chorske also scored, while Gracyn Shawcyn picked up two assists.

Matvei Shuravin, Ludvig Jansson, Casey Fitzgerald, Robert Mastrosimone, Will Bitten and Riese Gaber each added an assist. In net, Kirill Gerasimyuk stopped 14 of 17 shots to improve to 4-2, and Tyler Muszelik is expected to start today.

There was plenty going on across the prospect pipeline as well. Louis-Antoine Denault turned in a shutout performance for the Newfoundland Regiment, stopping all 36 shots in a 3-0 win over the Charlottetown Islanders. It was his second shutout of the season, and the 20-year-old is now 5-3-1 with a 2.90 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.

Arvid Drott made his mark in the Western Hockey League, scoring once and adding an assist in the Medicine Hat Tigers’ 5-1 road win over the Tri-City Americans. He finished with three shots and a plus-two rating, and the 2025 sixth-rounder now has two goals and five points in 11 games this season.

Jonas Kemps came out of Seattle Thunderbirds’ penalty-filled 5-4 win over the Saskatoon Blades with a minus-one rating. He has four assists in 13 WHL games this season.

In Switzerland’s National League, Simas Ignatavičius scored in Genève-Servette HC’s 3-2 win over EHC Biel. He led the team with five shots on goal and finished plus-one. The goal was his second in 19 games.

Over in the Swedish Hockey League, Simon Zether picked up an assist in Rögle BK’s 3-2 overtime loss to Örebro HK. He had one shot on goal and won one of his two draws, and he now has one goal and two assists in 15 games.

Albert Wikman also chipped in with an assist in Färjestad BK’s 5-1 win over Växjö Lakers, finishing plus-one with a hooking minor and two shots on goal. He has three goals and six points in 14 games.

Linus Erikkson took a minor penalty, logged one shot on goal, delivered two hits and won three of six faceoffs in Timrå IK’s 3-2 shootout loss to Luleå HF. He has three assists and 6 PIM in 14 SHL games.

Mads Kongsbak Klyvø had one shot on goal, blocked a shot and finished plus-one in Frölunda HC’s 4-1 win over Linköping HC. He has one assist in 14 SHL games.

At the college level, Ryder Cali had two shots on goal in Providence’s 5-1 loss to Quinnipiac. He has four goals in six games for the Friars.

Vladislav Lukashevich had two shots, took a minor penalty and finished minus-one in Miami’s 5-4 loss to St. Thomas, his second game of the season.

Luke Coughlin recorded one shot on goal and a plus-one rating in Ferris State’s 5-4 shootout loss to Bemidji State, his fourth appearance of the year. Shea Busch was held without a shot in Penn State’s 5-4 loss to Minnesota and is still searching for his first point with the Nittany Lions.

Brendan Dunphy finished minus-four in UConn’s 6-5 shootout loss to Merrimack, and he has an assist in seven games for the Huskies.

Panthers Just Sent A Message As Their Attack Keeps Coming

The Panthers kept rolling Saturday night at Amerant Bank Arena, finishing off a home-and-home sweep of the Jets with a 5-2 win after beating Winnipeg 5-1 on the road earlier in the week. Florida has now won six of its last eight and sits at 8-4-2, a stretch that has only reinforced how dangerous this group looks when its attack is clicking and the pace stays on its terms.

Anton Lundell was at the center of it, and Seth Jones helped drive the offense from the blue line as Florida kept piling on pressure against a Winnipeg team that had already seen this matchup get away from it once. The result was another convincing statement from a club that is finding ways to score in waves, with one notable milestone tucked into the night and another quietly adding to the sense that this teams ceiling is still rising. Stars Could Expose Whether Capitals Hot Start Is Actually Real

Washingtons 8-4-0 start has put the Capitals in an early-season spot they have not occupied often enough lately, and it has come with the usual mix of familiar strengths and nagging questions. Alex Ovechkin is still driving the offense, and the club has banked enough points to sit third in the Metropolitan Division, but the schedule is about to offer a much clearer read on how sustainable this opening surge really is.

Minnesota, Dallas and Florida are next on the slate, which means Washington is heading straight into a stretch against teams that can expose soft spots quickly. The defensive side already has been tested by injuries, and these games should tell the Capitals whether their fast start is the product of real progress or just a favorable opening run before the grind of playoff-caliber opponents begins.
