Panthers Are About To Unveil A Look Fans Will Definitely Debate

The Florida Panthers are set to make NHL history with their bold pink jerseys, blending fresh design with nostalgia in a striking debut.

The Florida Panthers are about to do something no NHL team has done in a regular-season game: show up in pink.

Monday’s debut of the club’s new Hometown Remix collection will put the Panthers in a pink-dominated jersey for the first time in game action, with the team set to wear it at home 10 times this season. Florida gets the unveiling out of the way in a big way, opening the look against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday and then rolling it back out Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The rest of the home schedule for the new sweater is set for Nov. 28 against Tampa Bay, Dec. 10 against Calgary, Dec. 26 against TBL, Jan. 2 against Montreal, Jan. 16 against Vegas, Feb. 13 against Dallas, March 6 against Toronto and March 27 against Philadelphia.

Teams, including the Panthers, have worn pink warmup jerseys before for cancer awareness, but this is the first time that color will be part of an NHL game jersey.

The full reveal arrives Monday morning, though Florida is doing it a few minutes ahead of the rest of the league. While all NHL teams will release their Hometown Remix look at 10 a.m., the Panthers’ unveiling is scheduled for 9:54, a nod to Broward County’s area code.

The look had been floating around for a while. Pink rumors started last season after a leaked Fanatics list showed each team’s primary new colors, with Florida listed as pink. Then over the summer, a couple of youth jerseys in the new design popped up on eBay.

What those clues pointed to was not a Miami Vice setup, despite the natural fit. The Panthers will not be going with the kind of look worn by the Miami Heat, Miami Marlins and FIU, even though that was the color scheme for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game in Sunrise. There was also chatter about a pink-and-black route similar to the style Inter Miami has made so recognizable.

Instead, Florida went with something more original.

The jersey body is bright pink, but it’s not a flat one-note design. The accent colors include peach, bright yellow, gold and blue, along with different shades of pink. Because blue sits on the top and bottom of the sweater, the Panthers may keep using their blue pants and helmets with it.

The logo treatment also leans into the team’s history while giving it a new spin. The front crest is a modern version of the original stick-and-palm secondary logo, the same one that spent years on the shoulder and also served as the primary mark on the bright blue Reverse Retro 2.0 in 2022-23. This version drops the small triangles from the original sunburst, and the sun now looks like it’s rising out of the water.

The sleeves carry the Panthers’ shield logo introduced in 2016, but without the words “Florida” or “Panthers.” The panther itself comes in shades of gold, and “South Florida” is stitched on the inside of the tail. The numbers are expected to have a futuristic feel, with the ESPN font mentioned as the comparison.

The release also fills a gap that has been around since the 2016 rebrand. Despite what fans have wanted, Florida has not had an alternate jersey since then. The league has had alternates in the form of the first two Reverse Retros and the faux retro Winter Classic jersey, which was only worn in Miami and then only occasionally after that.

This one is expected to be a one-year jersey, too.

WINNIPEG JETS at FLORIDA PANTHERS

Panthers Crease Picture Just Got More Complicated Than It Looked

The crease keeps getting a little more interesting for Florida as it prepares to face Winnipeg, with Akira Schmid getting the start while Jacob Markstrom remains on the mend from an upper-body injury. Markstrom has been on injured reserve since Oct. 20, though he is back skating with the team and his return could line up with the Panthers next stretch of games, leaving the staff to juggle short-term stability with the bigger picture in goal.

Winnipegs side adds another wrinkle, with the Jets expected to turn to Nico Daws, a recent trade pickup who could be making his debut. For Florida, it is another reminder that the goaltending picture is still unsettled even as the team tries to keep rolling, and the matchup carries a little extra intrigue with both clubs potentially leaning on a goalie situation that looks different from what anyone projected a few weeks ago.
