Karsen Dorwart has found his next landing spot.
AHL Charlotte, the Panthers’ affiliate, announced a one-year deal with the 23-year-old forward, giving him a place to play after he hit unrestricted free agency again this summer.
Dorwart’s path to this point has moved quickly, but it hasn’t followed the clean upward climb he once seemed to be on. Around a year and a half ago, he was viewed as one of the top undrafted college free agents in the 2025 class after three strong seasons at Michigan State University. He then signed with Philadelphia when his college career ended, and the Flyers immediately burned a year of the contract to get him in the fold.
He got into five games with Philadelphia late in the season and held his own, averaging nearly 11 minutes a night while winning 40% of his faceoffs. That was enough to keep the door open heading into camp last fall, where the hope was that he could fight for a full-time job.
Instead, an upper-body injury cost him most of training camp. Once he was cleared, he was sent to AHL Lehigh Valley.
From there, the season didn’t turn into the breakout Dorwart or Philadelphia were hoping for. He appeared in 70 games for the Phantoms and finished with 10 goals and 14 assists. When the Flyers decided not to extend a qualifying offer, they non-tendered him back in June.
Now Dorwart is expected to be at Florida’s training camp when it opens next week. He won’t be in the mix to break camp with the NHL club, but this deal gives him a fresh chance to build momentum and push for an NHL contract either during the season or next summer.

The Russian netminder has climbed through the MHL, VHL and KHL, a steady rise that suggests his game has kept pace with tougher competition at every stop. He also spent time at Panthers development camp in both 2025 and 2026, giving the organization a closer look at how his size, poise and mechanics are translating.
Gabdrakhmanovs path took another meaningful step when he reached the KHL with HC Sibir Novosibirsk in the 2026-27 season, putting him on a higher stage against pro competition that can help separate a project from a real prospect. For Florida, that matters because goalie development is often a long game, and a seventh-round pick who keeps advancing through meaningful leagues is exactly the sort of player worth tracking.
