Brad Marchand Just Gave Panthers Fans The Return Clue They Needed

While Brad Marchand and Sasha Barkov recover from injuries, Marchand reassures fans with an update on his expected return timeline.

Brad Marchand’s return to the Panthers lineup is still a ways off, but the winger offered a clearer picture Thursday as he continues to recover from a left knee injury.

Marchand, speaking at the unveiling of the new jetBlue Panthers-themed livery at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, said he expects to be back “soon enough.’’ He added, “I can’t say it’s this month, but probably within five weeks, six weeks,’’ after coach Paul Maurice said last week that Marchand would miss three more weeks.

The injury came on Oct. 6 in Los Angeles, when Marchand was pulled down as he crashed the net against the Kings. He had to be helped off the ice by Niko Mikkola and Brady Tkachuk, and the scene immediately looked serious.

Marchand said the recovery has gone better than he feared in the moment.

“I’ve never been so happy to be out for this amount of time,’’ Marchand said. “The injury could have been so much worse.

I’ve never hurt my knee before; I didn’t know what to think when I went down. I thought it could be a career-ending type of thing, a season-ending thing.

“When I found out it would be a couple of months or whatever, I was pretty happy that was the case. It has been getting better and stronger every day, we’re working through it.’’

Sasha Barkov is also skating as he works back from injury, and Maurice said he would be out another three weeks. Barkov didn’t give a timetable, but he said going through rehab alongside Marchand has helped.

“Hopefully, soon, both of us will be back,’’ Barkov said. “It has been great to share the experience with Marchy, see what he does, how he gets ready.”

Barkov also noted that Marchand’s reputation has changed since their days on opposite sides.

“I like getting to know him better,’’ Barkov said. “I didn’t think I would ever say that.’’

Panthers Got The Response They Needed From An Unexpected Difference Maker

Florida got the kind of answer it needed in a 5-3 win over Chicago, and the surprise of the night was Sandis Vilmanis, who kept popping up in the offense while the Panthers built an early 3-0 cushion. Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe also found the scoresheet, while Jacob Markstrom handled 18 shots in goal as Florida tried to steady itself after a stretch that demanded a cleaner, more complete response.

The Blackhawks made it interesting by cutting into the lead twice in the third period, but the Panthers did enough to keep control and leave with two points. For a team looking for reliable production beyond the usual names, Vilmanis gave them exactly the kind of lift that can change the tone of a game, even if the final minutes still asked a few uncomfortable questions. Panthers May Have Found A New Offensive Threat Against Chicago

The Panthers got a needed lift in a 5-3 win over the Blackhawks at Amerant Bank Arena, and Sandis Vilmanis was at the center of it. Vilmanis led Florida with four points, including two goals, while Sam Reinhart added three points as the Panthers built enough of a cushion to survive Chicagos late push.

Florida still had to sweat through a comeback attempt before putting the game away with a late empty-net goal, but the bigger takeaway was the emergence of another offensive option. For a team that leans on its top scorers to drive the attack, getting that kind of production from Vilmanis gives the Panthers something to watch as the schedule moves on. [Read more 🡒]

Panthers Are Getting A Young Spark At The Perfect Time

Floridas 5-3 win over Chicago came with a timely jolt from Sandis Vilmanis, who helped tilt the night in the Panthers favor with a strong all-around effort. On a four-game NHL slate that also featured Adrian Kempes hat trick for the Kings and a few tight finishes elsewhere, Florida got the kind of young contribution that can matter a lot over the long haul.

Vilmanis was active in all the right ways as the Panthers kept pace in a game that had some back-and-forth to it before they pulled away. For a team looking to keep building depth and find more offense from within, a performance like this stands out, especially when it arrives in a game Florida needed to have. [Read more 🡒]
