Vernell Brown III burst onto the scene at Florida in 2025, quickly establishing himself as a standout freshman with his impressive stats: 40 receptions and 512 receiving yards over 10 games. His performance earned him a well-deserved spot on the 2025 Freshman All-SEC Team.
As he steps into his sophomore season, Brown III isn't just aiming to repeat his past success-he's pushing to elevate his game and leadership. This transformation was evident during the offseason under the guidance of Director of Football Performance, Rusty Whitt. Brown III emerged as a vocal leader, a role he naturally embraced.
“VBIII was the first to step up as a vocal leader,” Whitt noted. “He’s been through the grind and wants to improve. His maturity sets a benchmark for everyone.”
Determined to improve from last season's seven drops, Brown III dedicated his summer to honing his ball skills. His regimen included 200 catches a day using a jug machine and tennis balls, focusing on enhancing his hand-eye coordination and ball tracking.
His relentless work ethic caught the eye of offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who couldn’t help but commend the young receiver.
“That guy spends more time in the facility than any receiver I’ve ever coached,” Faulkner said. “He’s a natural leader, knows the offense inside out, and genuinely puts in the work. With guys like him, you’ve got a real shot.”
Standing at 5’11” and weighing 177 pounds, Brown III is a versatile threat. He averaged 11.7 yards per punt return, with a long of 40 yards, placing him 18th nationally. His prowess extends to spring practices, where he’s excelled in punt block drills.
Special teams coordinator Johnathan Galante praised Brown III’s willingness to learn and grow.
“He’s a top player for a reason,” Galante said. “His skill set is matched by his eagerness to improve. Despite his youth, he shows remarkable maturity.”
Galante added, “He’s an elite special-teams player. Whether as a gunner or returner, his punt-block skills are impressive. He’s different, and he’s a joy to coach.”
Brown III’s freshman year was marked by highlight-reel moments, including a jaw-dropping one-handed catch against LIU and a 40-yard punt return against USF. His ability to make big plays, break tackles, and his dedication to improvement suggest he’s on the path to becoming a college football star.
“It’s all about the work you put in,” Brown III reflected. “You have to love the process because it gives you the opportunity. The work builds confidence, and while I’ve done well, it’s what I expected because of the effort I’ve invested.”
