Urban Meyer’s place in Florida football history now has a date attached to it.
The University of Florida announced Monday that Meyer will be inducted into the Gators’ Football Ring of Honor on Nov. 7, when Florida hosts Oklahoma. He becomes the seventh inductee in program history, joining Wilber Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Tim Tebow, Jack Youngblood and former player and coach Steve Spurrier.
Meyer’s run in Gainesville still stands as one of the most decorated in program history. Over six seasons from 2005-10, he led Florida to two national championships and two SEC titles. His 65-15 record ranks third all-time among Gators head coaches, and his .813 winning percentage is second-best in program history for a full-time head coach.
The honor had already been made public during Meyer’s 2025 College Football Hall of Fame on-campus salute last season, which came during Florida’s game against Tennessee. At the time, Meyer said:

Meyer’s championship résumé is the obvious reason he’s headed into the Ring of Honor. He also added three bowl wins in his four seasons without a title, and his back-to-back 13-1 finishes in 2008 and 2009 made him the first coach in FBS history to post consecutive 13-win seasons. The 22-game winning streak that stretched across those two years remains a school record.
The rest of the Ring of Honor lineup has been built in stages. Spurrier, Youngblood, Smith and Wuerffel were inducted together on Sept. 30, 2006, during the 100-year Celebration of Gator Football.
Marshall followed on Sept. 29, 2007, and Tebow was the most recent addition on Oct. 6, 2018.
Since leaving Florida, Meyer coached at Ohio State from 2012-18 and won a third national title there. He also had a stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. More recently, he has moved into broadcasting with Fox Sports and helped Florida recruit and eventually hire new head coach Jon Sumrall.

Florida opens a new chapter this fall under Jon Sumrall after the program moved on from Billy Napier, and the preseason picture around the Gators has been a reminder that a reset does not automatically come with instant respect. Florida checked in at No. 17 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Top 25, while the preseason All-SEC media poll pegged the Gators to finish ninth in the league, a spot that reflects both the skepticism outside Gainesville and the work still ahead in a rugged conference.
There is still enough talent here to make the conversation interesting. Florida returns five starters on each side of the ball, and a handful of players picked up preseason All-SEC recognition, which gives Sumrall a base to build from even in a year that begins with tempered expectations.
