Urban Meyer isn’t backing away from the SEC spotlight this weekend. He sees Florida as the team that gets it done when Ole Miss comes to town.
The former coach, now a prominent analyst on The Triple Option podcast, weighed in on one of the weekend’s biggest matchups as the show broke down a loaded SEC slate. Ole Miss heads to Gainesville fresh off a big win against LSU, while Florida arrives after going to Auburn and controlling Week 3.
Meyer said the Gators’ current form is enough to push him toward his old school.
“I can’t believe Florida is a favorite in that game after what Ole Miss did,” Meyer said. “Chambliss is a man; the stage isn’t going to be too bright for him.
I got a walk-off here. I think it is going to be a hell of a football game.
I think Florida is playing like their coach; he’s a tough-a**, and they’re tough. I am going to pick the Gators.”
He also reinforced that view on the show’s social post, saying, "I think Florida's playing like their coach … he (Jon Sumrall) is a tough ass"
From Meyer’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of SEC game that can flip fast. Ole Miss is coming off an emotional high after beating LSU, but now has to deal with a Florida team that has been waiting for a moment like this. Florida’s 44-39 win over Auburn, Meyer noted, doesn’t tell the full story. The Gators have a dangerous offense with plenty of playmakers, and running back Jadan Baugh sits at the center of it. Meyer pointed to Baugh as one of the best backs in the country, and said pairing him with Florida’s receivers creates a real problem for the Ole Miss defense - one it has not had to solve yet this season.
