Both Michigan and Arizona are set to compete in the Final Four, which complicates UNC's pursuit of Lloyd and May. As Jeff Goodman from the Field of 68 points out, the Tar Heels are in a "holding pattern" as these coaches focus on their current teams' championship runs.
Goodman notes that Lloyd and May are likely to put any discussions with UNC on hold until their tournament journeys conclude. "If those guys end up winning their Elite Eight matchups and go to the Final Four, they’re probably not going to entertain talks right now," Goodman explains.
As Lloyd and May head to Indianapolis, the stakes are high, not just for their teams but for their coaching futures. Meanwhile, the transfer portal looms on the horizon, opening on April 7, adding another layer of complexity to the coaching landscape.
Even if Michigan had stumbled earlier in the tournament, Goodman suggests that May's interest in UNC might not be as strong as some believe. "It's unlikely Dusty May takes Carolina," Goodman shares. "He's very happy at Michigan, and so is his family."
