Todd Golden Just Landed A Frontcourt Piece Florida Fans Will Love

Deck: The Florida Gators land top-tier recruit Ian Condon, promising a boost with his versatile skillset and standout performance on both ends of the court.

Todd Golden and Florida have added a major piece to their 2027 recruiting board, landing four-star power forward Ian Condon.

Condon is rated by 247Sports as the No. 18 power forward in the class of 2027, and he also stands as the top overall prospect from Washington, D.C. That alone puts him in notable company, especially with the DMV area - D.C., Maryland and Virginia - continuing to churn out high-level talent in both football and basketball.

At 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds as a senior at Sidwell Friends School, Condon brings the kind of frame that immediately jumps out. It’s the sort of size coaches covet, and there’s room for him to add even more muscle once he gets to Gainesville.

But the appeal goes well beyond his build. Condon has the tools to fit the modern game as a stretch 4, with athleticism and a smooth outside shot to go with his length.

In EYBL play, he averaged more than 18 points per game and knocked down 36 percent of his three-pointers while taking seven per game. For a big man, that’s serious volume and real production.

That shooting touch gives Florida a potential pick-and-pop threat, but Condon isn’t just a perimeter piece. He also rebounds like a traditional frontcourt player, averaging 6.5 boards per game with 2.1 coming on the offensive glass.

“I describe my play style and my game as versatile and being able to score at all three levels, in the paint, in the midrange, and beyond the arch," Condon told Rivals when asked for a self-scout. "An elite shooter.

Also a good rebounder and smart defender. Someone who plays/works very hard.”

Florida Is Suddenly In Position For A Massive Recruiting Flip

A sudden opening in the 2027 class has put Florida in the thick of a major recruiting battle, with five-star wide receiver Easton Royal drawing real attention after a recent visit to Gainesville. Royal, who is committed to Texas and ranked as the top wideout in his class, has become one of the most closely watched names on Floridas board as Jon Sumrall pushes to make the Gators a serious threat in a race that has quickly picked up steam.

Texas is not letting the situation drift, either, with Steve Sarkisian working to hold on to Royal as speculation around a possible change in plans continues to grow. For Florida, the appeal is obvious: landing a player of Royals caliber would send a clear message about the programs ability to win elite battles early, but the story is still unfolding and the next move will determine whether this becomes a real flip or just another high-profile visit to track. Florida Suddenly Looks Like More Than A Top 10 Story

Floridas 52-28 win over Ole Miss did more than add another ranked victory to the ledger. It pushed the Gators up to No. 8 nationally and reinforced the idea that this team is beginning to look like a program with staying power, not just a nice early-season storyline. Jadan Baugh was central to that picture, piling up 142 rushing yards and three touchdowns while continuing to pace the nation in rushing scores.

The momentum has spilled beyond the field, too, with Florida landing commitments from 2028 recruits Cyion Smith and Samuel Bailey and getting another bit of good news when basketball player Denzel Aberdeen was cleared for the 2026-27 season. For a fan base used to measuring progress in narrow steps, the week felt like one of those rare stretches when almost everything seemed to be moving the right way at once, even if the bigger test of just how far this run can go is still ahead. Florida Run Game Faces A Big Test In Missouri

Florida heads into Week 5 coming off its win over Ole Miss, and the next stop on the schedule brings a very different kind of challenge. Missouri has drawn plenty of attention from CBS Sports Networks Inside College Football, where the panel split on the matchup, with some leaning toward the Tigers as a possible upset pick and others sticking with Florida because of what the Gators have shown on the ground and the overall steadiness of their play.

For Florida, the trip is more than just another conference road game. Missouris recent issues against ranked teams give the Gators one angle to like, but Floridas own road losing streak against ranked opponents hangs over the matchup and makes this feel like a real measuring stick. If the run game travels, Florida should be in good shape, but this is the kind of game that can turn quickly if Missouri gets the upper hand early. [Read more 🡒]
