Florida’s 2026 schedule may come down to a brutal little three-game run that looks like a true toss-up from every angle.
The Gators are less than 50 days from opening the season against FAU, which will mark the first game of the Jon Sumrall era. Around the program, the conversation is already drifting toward what kind of year this can be. Florida fans are hoping for eight or nine wins as the floor, but most Vegas projections and computer models have the Gators landing closer to six or seven.
That’s why this stretch stands out. If Florida is going to finish ranked and give Sumrall a clean launch, these three games may be the hinge point.
September 19 at Auburn is the first one to circle. It’s the early measuring stick for Sumrall and the closest thing Florida will have to an apples-to-apples matchup in 2026.
Auburn has a new coach too, Alex Golesh, and the Tigers brought in a large group of transfers, including several who followed Golesh from USF after the Bulls beat Florida in The Swamp last year. On paper, Florida might still look like the better team, but that picture should get clearer once Auburn opens Week One against DJ Lagway and Baylor.
A week later, Florida gets Ole Miss at home on September 26, and this one may be the most interesting of the bunch. You’d think the Rebels would be favored, but several models still have it sitting as a straight 50/50 game.
Ole Miss is dealing with its own transition under Pete Golding, who has to show he can sustain the level Lane Kiffin left behind. Golding did guide the Rebels through the 2025 playoffs, but now the job is about doing it for an entire season.
Florida may also catch a break in the calendar, since Ole Miss has LSU and Kiffin the week before heading into The Swamp.
Then comes October 3 at Missouri, the one that can quietly wreck a season if it slips away. It may not have the same buzz as Auburn or Ole Miss, but it looks like the trap game in this group.
ESPN’s FPI gives Florida only a 45% chance to win it, which tells you plenty about how tight that trip could be. Missouri has a gatekeeper feel in the SEC, and Florida has to find a way through it, especially if the Gators stumble against Ole Miss the week before.
The math is simple enough: Sumrall’s team needs to come out of this stretch at least 2-1. Anything less, and the road gets ugly fast with Texas, Georgia, and Oklahoma still waiting later on the schedule.
