11 Tulane at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, every seat in the house came with an extra dose of Christmas spirit: a Santa hat. All told, 68,002 fans packed into the stadium-well above its listed capacity of 64,038-making for a packed, rowdy, and unmistakably festive atmosphere.

According to Guinness World Records, the crowd shattered the previous record for the largest gathering of people wearing Santa hats. That mark had stood since 2014, when the Los Angeles Angels handed out holiday caps to 30,333 fans during a midseason game against the Twins. Oxford more than doubled that number.
The visual was striking. A stadium filled to the brim with fans decked out in red and white hats, creating a holiday mosaic that looked more like a scene from a Christmas card than a high-stakes college football clash.
And the color palette couldn’t have been more fitting-Ole Miss in red, Tulane in green. It was holiday-themed football at its finest.
But not everyone was feeling the holiday spirit, at least not sartorially. According to reports from the stadium, the section of Tulane fans didn’t receive Santa hats.
Whether that was by design or just a logistical oversight, it meant the wave of red and white had a few green gaps. Still, the record stood, and the moment belonged to Oxford.
I’ll be the Christmas cheer police. The Tulane fans not getting Santa hats like the rest of the stadium is a Grinch move. pic.twitter.com/RiYnYbr2Iu

On the field, Ole Miss leaned into the good vibes, taking a 17-3 lead into halftime. The Rebels looked sharp and energized, feeding off the electric atmosphere. While the game had plenty of playoff implications, it was also a celebration-a stadium full of fans, a record-setting stunt, and a little holiday magic sprinkled over it all.
In a season where college football has delivered plenty of drama, this one added a touch of cheer. A world record, a packed house, and a playoff battle under the lights-Oxford delivered a December moment to remember.
