Over the past two weeks, the Florida Gators have rolled out the red carpet for some of their top recruits, inviting them to campus to catch a glimpse of spring practice and connect with the coaching staff. Among these visitors was linebacker Kaden Henderson from Tampa's Jesuit High School, who left Gainesville buzzing with excitement.
“It was a great overall visit,” Henderson shared, reflecting on his time at Florida. “Being there for my first spring practice was incredible.
The energy was infectious, and the atmosphere was electric. I was thrilled to be a part of it.”
Henderson, no stranger to the campus, noticed a palpable shift since Jon Sumrall took the helm. “The intensity was off the charts,” he noted.
“The environment felt different from last year. There’s a cultural shift happening.
The players seem more engaged and eager, which speaks volumes about the program’s direction.”
As a linebacker, Henderson had his eyes on Coach Greg Gasparato’s group, keen to see if he could envision himself in their ranks. “Watching Coach Gas work with the linebackers was eye-opening,” Henderson said.
“His intensity and teaching style really stood out. It’s exactly what you want from a coach.”
Post-practice, the coaching staff made it clear to Henderson that he’s a priority for them. “The entire staff has been in touch,” he explained. “They want to build the class around me, and even though I didn’t initially include them in my top five, they’re committed to changing that.”
Henderson was particularly impressed by Coach Sumrall’s approach, which extends beyond the gridiron. “Seeing that a coach doesn’t give up on you is huge,” he remarked. “It reflects the cultural change within the staff, and that means a lot.”
While the Gators didn’t make his initial top five, the visit certainly improved their standing. “It’s about building relationships,” Henderson said.
“Coach Gas is in frequent contact, and despite the challenges of having a new staff, the connection is strengthening. I’m hoping to visit again soon, maybe even for an official visit.”
The Gators’ efforts to woo Henderson underscore a broader strategy of building a strong, cohesive team. With the right mix of coaching and culture, they’re making a compelling case for top recruits like Henderson to join their ranks.
