The Florida Gators are gearing up for a fresh start after a challenging 4-8 season that led to a coaching overhaul. With a new staff in place, the focus is clear: keep the key players who can make a difference. This was evident when sophomore running back Jadan Baugh committed to returning for the 2026 season, a decision that began with a crucial visit to Atlanta.
Head coach Jon Sumrall, offensive coordinator Buster Faulker, and running backs coach Chris Foster made a personal trip to meet with Baugh and his family on Christmas Eve. Their mission was simple yet profound: connect with Baugh on a personal level. Foster emphasized the importance of building genuine relationships, stating that it was more about who he was as a person than just football.
Baugh’s decision to stay with the Gators was a significant win for the team, thanks in large part to the persistent efforts of the coaching staff. His commitment quickly became headline news, underscoring the impact of the new coaching approach.
Within weeks of reaffirming his commitment, Baugh began to shine as a leader during practices. Rusty Whitt, UF's director of football performance, praised Baugh's exceptional performance in workouts, also noting the promising contributions of Jayden Woods and Brendan Bett.
Foster's move to Florida was driven by a desire to be part of a program with a rich history of success, including SEC and national championships. His previous success at Duke, where he helped secure an ACC Championship, made him a valuable addition to the Gators' coaching roster.
Despite the successful meeting in Atlanta, Foster admitted he wasn't immediately sure Baugh would return. However, after weeks of consideration, Baugh made his decision, much to the delight of the Gator community.
Foster has been impressed with Baugh's character and professionalism, highlighting his leadership qualities and commitment to excellence. Baugh’s ability to hold his teammates accountable and maintain high standards in the running back room has been particularly noteworthy.
“He’s one of the best human beings you can be around,” Foster said, expressing admiration for Baugh’s talent and character. It's clear that Baugh’s presence is invaluable to the team, both on and off the field, as they look to build a brighter future in Gainesville.
