David Pollack didn’t need long to zero in on the SEC offense giving defenses the most trouble right now. After watching Florida carve through its first month under first-year offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, the former Georgia linebacker came away convinced the Gators are doing things at a pace and level that make life miserable for anyone lining up across from them.
On his Monday podcast, See Ball Get Ball, Pollack called Florida’s attack the toughest scheme to deal with.
“Florida’s offense, schematically, is the hardest to defend,” Pollack said. “This is an offense in Florida that scored 50 in a game one time in the previous two seasons.
Their first four games, they’ve scored 66, 52, 44 and 52. The Florida fans have been yearning for Urban Meyer-type deal.
Well, it’s back.
“I knew Jadan Baugh was going to do his thing because he’s the best back in college football. That’s not debatable.
I didn’t know Duke Clark was also going to do this thing, right? Now he comes in and they’re looking like the best one-two punch in all of college football.
… If my eyes are not exactly where they are supposed to be, I’m going to lose at an extremely high level.”
The numbers back up the buzz. Florida has opened 4-0 in the first season of a new coaching regime, and the offense has been the driving force. The Gators put up 66 points, then 52, then 44, then another 52, with the last two outbursts coming against SEC opponents Auburn and Ole Miss.
Pollack’s breakdown centered on how hard it is to stay on top of everything Florida is showing at once, especially with Baugh and Clark giving the Gators a backfield combo that looks as dangerous as any in the country.
