Florida’s Friday SEC availability report brought the biggest update the Gators have seen all week: Vernell Brown III has been ruled out for Saturday’s matchup with Oklahoma.
Brown was previously listed as questionable, but he’s now been downgraded to out and will miss his fifth straight game. The wideout has been dealing with a grade-1 PCL strain he suffered against Ole Miss in Week 4, and the issue was re-aggravated ahead of last week’s Georgia game.
Jon Sumrall said Monday that Brown was not available at practice and that the timeline remains murky after the setback.
"So he was not available at practice today," Jon Sumrall said on Monday. "I really don't have a really strong feeling on timeline because everything early in the week last week was trending really positively until the setback on Wednesday.
It sucks. It sucks for him.
He's working like hell to try to get back. He's frustrated."
Sumrall later expanded on that with what he called his "official VB3 statement":
"He wants to play. He's doing everything he can to play.
He's pissed off he can't play, and he's doing everything in his power to play. It's a real injury that we thought we were on the other side of that he had a setback last week, and it sucks.
I mean, it freaking sucks for him."
Brown is one of five Florida players now listed as out for the game in the Swamp. The others are defensive lineman Jeramiah McCloud, tight end Evan Chieca, offensive lineman Emeka Ugorji and linebacker Jaden Robinson. McCloud is out because of a suspension, according to Swamp247, while Robinson missed his first game of the season last week against Georgia.
A program spokesperson also said, "Jeramiah McCloud has been suspended for this week's game against Oklahoma for conduct detrimental to the team. His status with the program will be re-evaluated after this week's contest,"
Florida did get some movement in the right direction elsewhere on the report. Wide receiver Bailey Stockton and defensive lineman Emmanuel Oyebadejo were both upgraded from questionable to probable. The two had been listed as doubtful last week before ultimately playing against Georgia.
Stockton has been working through a nagging foot injury, but he still caught eight passes for 76 yards against the Bulldogs. Oyebadejo, who has been managing an ankle injury that forced him to miss a game earlier this season, finished the Week 9 loss with two solo tackles, a sack and a pass breakup.
Oklahoma’s report includes eight players who will not play Saturday: linebacker Taylor Heim, defensive back Dakoda Fields, wide receiver Trell Harris, linebacker Cole Sullivan, tight end Trynae Washington, defensive back Jacobe Johnson, and offensive linemen Ryan Fodje and Fred Hinton.
The Sooners also list offensive lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis as doubtful and defensive back Peyton Bowen as questionable. Wide receiver Elijah Thomas and defensive lineman Kenny Ozowalu are probable, while wide receiver Jer'Michael Carter, defensive back Eli Bowen, tight end Rocky Beers and offensive lineman Jake Maikkula have been cleared to play.

Florida Faces A Late-Season SEC Test That Will Say Plenty
Floridas late-season stretch brings a familiar kind of pressure, with the Gators heading into an SEC matchup against Oklahoma in a game that should tell a lot about where this team stands. The preview points to the usual mix of personnel and game-plan questions that matter this time of year, when every snap can shape postseason positioning and the conference picture around it.
Around the league, the broader weekend slate adds even more context, with Florida State facing Boston College and UCF meeting Kansas in games that also carry meaningful stakes. For Florida, the focus is less on the surrounding noise and more on how the Gators handle a test like this one, because matchups at this stage tend to expose whether a team is built for the next step or still searching for answers. Former Florida Tight End Has Extra Reason To Hurt The Gators
Hayden Hansens move from Gainesville to Norman already gave Florida fans plenty to think about, and now the former Gators tight end has an added layer of motivation heading into an upcoming SEC matchup. Hansen spent three seasons at the University of Florida before transferring to Oklahoma after Billy Napier was fired, and he has settled into a role with the Sooners this fall.
He has appeared in five games for Oklahoma this season, catching seven passes for 84 yards and a touchdown, and the next stop on the schedule brings him face to face with his old program. For Florida, it is one more reminder that roster turnover can linger well beyond a coaching change, especially when a familiar player ends up on the other sideline. [Read more 🡒]
Todd Golden Sees One Early Warning Sign Despite Floridas Fast Start
Floridas opening win over Miami gave Todd Golden plenty to like, but it also offered an early reminder that a fast start does not mean the work is done. Even after a strong debut, Golden pointed to free throw shooting and the need to be more effective against zone defenses as areas that still need attention, a familiar kind of early-season checkpoint for a team trying to build on its talent and depth.
Golden has made it clear that the Gators are aiming for steady growth, not just one good night, and that mindset matters in a sport where even well-built rosters can be tested quickly. Floridas personnel and coaching staff draw favorable comparisons to Dukes on paper, but college basketball has a way of flattening those advantages fast, which is why the next stretch will say plenty about how real this early momentum is.
