Florida’s win over Ole Miss did more than keep the good times rolling in the Swamp. It pushed the Gators into the top 10 of ESPN’s Football Power Index and gave their season outlook a major jolt after a 52-28 statement victory on Saturday.
The result gave Florida its first 4-0 start since 2019, and the numbers that followed were just as loud as the score. In ESPN’s updated FPI, the Gators climbed six spots to No. 10, with their rating rising 2.9 points to 19.3.
That puts Florida between No. 9 Oregon at 21.7 and No.
11 Tennessee at 18.2.
The model now likes Florida’s path the rest of the way a lot more than it did a week ago. ESPN’s FPI projects the Gators to finish the regular season at 9.0-3.2, and their chance of running the table has jumped from 0.1% to 0.9%.
There’s also been a big swing in the broader postseason outlook. Florida’s odds of reaching six wins went from 92.3% to 99.2%, while its chance of winning the conference moved up 3.3% to 6.4%.
The College Football Playoff picture changed in a big way, too. The Gators went from a 26.2% chance to make the playoff to 48.9% after Week 4. ESPN’s model also gives Florida a 5.8% shot at reaching the national championship game and a 2.2% chance to win the national title, increases of 3.0% and 1.2%, respectively.
At the top of the updated FPI rankings, Georgia sits at No. 1, followed by Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas and Miami. Alabama is sixth, with Indiana, LSU, Oregon and Florida rounding out the top 10. Tennessee comes in at No. 11, followed by Utah, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas A&M, BYU, USC, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Auburn and Iowa.
