Florida may have to wait a little longer before it gets its new playmaker back on the field.
Head coach Jon Sumrall said Monday that wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is “highly questionable” for this week’s game against Campbell after leaving Saturday’s season-opening win over FAU with a leg injury.
“Eric Singleton is highly questionable for this week. (Defensive lineman) Emmanuel (Oyebadejo) is also highly questionable. We won’t know until middle to later in the week what their real availability is,” Sumrall told reporters.
Singleton’s injury happened on a routine-looking play gone wrong. He was trying to throw a strong block on the perimeter, finished the job, and then got rolled up on the action. That forced him out of the game.
Florida hosts Campbell on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
The injury is a frustrating early setback for a receiver the Gators expected to lean on heavily after he transferred from Auburn in the offseason. Singleton has been productive throughout his college career, starting with two seasons at Georgia Tech before moving to Auburn in 2025. Over that stretch, he has averaged 54 catches per season and topped 2,000 receiving yards.
His move to Gainesville also reunited him with new Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who coached him during those two seasons at Georgia Tech.
For now, Florida is waiting to see whether Singleton can get back in uniform soon. The Gators’ offense would clearly benefit from having him available as the season moves forward.
