It was one of those weeks where Florida football seemed to generate a new headline every time you looked up, and most of the noise had nothing to do with what happens between the lines. Eligibility, depth charts, watch lists, uniform reveals - the Gators were all over the map.
The biggest jolt came with Denzel Aberdeen. Florida fans had reason to think he was cleared for the 2026-27 season after the court ruling out of Colorado, but that changed when the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a “stay,” putting that ruling on hold. More court battles appear to be coming.
On the field, the quarterback picture got a little clearer after last Saturday’s scrimmage. Aaron Philo took most of the first-team reps, and even though he threw an interception, Jon Sumral appears to be leaning his way over Tramell Jones.
Florida’s offensive line still has some sorting out to do, too. Sumrall said he feels good about the interior, but the tackle spots remain unsettled. Emeka Ugorji and Eagan Boyer are currently lined up there, though both still have work ahead of them to lock things down.
The uncertainty around Florida goes beyond one position group. The Gators were left out of the AP preseason poll, which fits with where the program has been lately, but the range of projections around them is wild - anywhere from 6-6 to the playoff conversation. At this point, neither outcome would really be a shock.
There’s also a real battle brewing behind Jadan Baugh at running back. Evan Pryor, the transfer from Cincinnati, talked with the media this week and is in the mix with Duke Clark for the formal RB2 job. Pryor brings speed, and he said his focus is on showing what he can do.
Florida’s receiver room got a strange kind of slight, too. No Gators wideouts landed on the Biletnikoff watch list, which tracks the country’s best pass catcher.
That said, the way the list is assembled makes the omission a little easier to understand. Even so, the group looks like one to keep an eye on in 2026.
The watch-list news wasn’t all quiet for Florida, though. The Gators did place five players on the Senior Bowl watch list, and LJ McCray was included on the Comeback Player of the Year watch list.
Elsewhere, Florida officially announced its uniform combinations for each game after teasing the looks on social media. Sumrall, though, is not the type to get too worked up about what the team is wearing.
In other Florida sports news, the Gators bounced back after an opening loss to UCF and beat Coastal Carolina 3-2 on Thursday night. It was the first win as Florida’s head coach for Nick Zimmerman.
And former Gator Jack Pyburn, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had two sacks in a preseason game last week. Even so, he reportedly still wants to return to college, with a TRO from a Louisiana court opening the door.

For a team sorting out the edges of its roster, that kind of leg strength and consistency tends to stand out fast.
Elsewhere, the former Florida pipeline is producing a mixed bag as camp winds down. Jake Slaughter has moved into the Chargers starting center spot after Tyler Biadasz went down, a notable shift for a player originally drafted to play guard, while Anthony Richardson Sr. had a rough outing for Indianapolis with 3 completions on 9 attempts for 24 yards and two sacks. Floridas second fall camp scrimmage offered one of the clearest peeks yet at where the quarterback competition stands, with Tramell Jones running with the first team and making his presence felt on both sides of the ball.
