The Florida Gators are in a bit of a transitional phase right now - and the changes keep coming. As they wait for new head coach Jon Sumrall to fully take over the program, they’ve now got another roster move to navigate. Running back Kahnen “KD” Daniels has officially entered the transfer portal, marking another shift in the backfield heading into 2026.
Daniels, a former four-star recruit from the 2024 class, was ranked No. 203 nationally in the 247Sports Composite. At 6-foot, 205 pounds, he came to Gainesville with a solid blend of size and speed, and while he didn’t carve out a starring role, he showed flashes of potential in limited action.
In his second year with the Gators, Daniels logged 28 carries across 10 games, tallying 120 rushing yards and a touchdown. That’s a 4.3 yards-per-carry average - not eye-popping, but enough to suggest there’s more in the tank. And with three years of eligibility left, he’ll be an intriguing pickup for programs looking to add depth and upside at the position.
Daniels’ recruiting profile was strong coming out of high school. He took visits to Florida State, Auburn, and Texas A&M before ultimately committing to Florida.
He also held offers from heavy hitters like Alabama, Oregon, and Ole Miss. That kind of interest doesn’t fade quickly, and it’s likely he’ll draw significant attention in the portal.
For Florida, this is another piece of the puzzle to sort out as Sumrall balances his current responsibilities at Tulane with his future in Gainesville. Until Tulane’s College Football Playoff run concludes, Sumrall will be juggling both roles - a challenge, no doubt, but one he’s expected to manage with the same intensity that’s defined his coaching rise.
Once Sumrall is fully in place, he’ll have to address the depth chart at running back and beyond. The Gators are looking to build a more consistent and competitive roster heading into the 2026 season, which kicks off on September 5 against Florida Atlantic.
There’s still plenty of time to reshape things before then, but KD Daniels’ exit is a reminder that the portal era doesn’t wait for anyone - not even a new head coach trying to get settled.
