Florida’s 2027 class keeps stacking up, and the biggest splash came in mid-October when Easton Royal backed off Texas and landed with the Gators.
That flip gave Florida a second consensus five-star in the class to go with offensive centerpiece Maxwell Hiller, and it pushed the Gators into the thick of the national race. As of mid-October 2026, Florida sits at No. 5 in the On3 and Rivals rankings and No. 8 in the 247Sports list, up from No. 7 in May. The class now includes 21 commitments, with a blue-chip rate of about 67 percent.
Hiller remains the anchor of the group. The Coatesville, Pennsylvania, standout is listed as the No. 1 interior offensive lineman and either the No. 2 or No. 3 player nationally, depending on the service. Royal, out of Brother Martin in New Orleans, checks in as the No. 1 receiver and No. 8 overall after his flip from Steve Sarkisian and Texas on October 11.
Florida’s receiver haul goes well beyond Royal. Elias Pearl, the Port Charlotte wideout, committed in mid-May after beating out Georgia, LSU and Florida State. He joins Anthony Jennings of Dillard and Tramond Collins of Cottondale as part of a perimeter group that gives the class a real jolt on the outside.
The Gators have also built out the rest of the roster with a heavy dose of defense and line play. Cahron Wheeler from St.
Paul’s School in Baltimore, Raheem Floyd from East St. Louis, Ja’Bios Smith from Swainsboro, Ellis McGaskin from Williamson, and Kamauri Whitfield from The First Academy all added to the defensive side.
Up front, Florida has Elijah Hutcheson, Peyton Miller, Stive-Bentley Keumajou, De’Voun Kendrick and Cain Van Norden in the fold as well.
At quarterback, Davin Davidson out of Cardinal Mooney gives the class a signal-caller, while the group also includes Andrew Beard II at running back, Tommy Douglas and Jackson Ballinger at tight end, Kamarion Johnson and Kailib Dillard in the secondary, and Aaron McWilliams as the specialist.
Here’s the full commitment list as it stands: Maxwell Hiller, Easton Royal, Elias Pearl, Elijah Hutcheson, Cahron Wheeler, Davin Davidson, Tramond Collins, Peyton Miller, Aamaury Fountain, Raheem Floyd, Andrew Beard II, Ja’Bios Smith, Amare Nugent, Anthony Jennings, Tommy Douglas, Jackson Ballinger, Kamarion Johnson, Kailib Dillard, Stive-Bentley Keumajou, De’Voun Kendrick, Ellis McGaskin, Kamauri Whitfield, Cain Van Norden and Aaron McWilliams.
The latest movement also included an upgrade for Amare Nugent, the corner from American Heritage in Plantation. Florida’s defensive additions have widened the class’s reach geographically, with commitments coming in from Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Virginia, Maryland, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma and Florida.

Tramell Jones Jr. Just Gave Florida A Reason To Believe
A freshman making his first career start is rarely asked to steady a program against a top-10 opponent, but Tramell Jones Jr. walked into that kind of assignment and gave Florida exactly the kind of calm it needed. The Gators rallied from a 17-3 deficit to beat seventh-ranked Texas 27-24, and Jones played a central role in getting them back into it, completing 22 of 35 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.
For Florida, the win was about more than surviving an early hole. It was about seeing a young quarterback handle pressure, keep the offense moving and give the Gators a chance when the game tightened late. The defense finished the job with a late fumble by Texas quarterback Arch Manning, but the bigger takeaway in Gainesville is hard to miss: there is at least a reason to believe Florida has found something it can build on. Florida Suddenly Has A Bigger Opportunity Than Anyone Expected
Floridas win over Texas came at exactly the right time, giving Billy Napiers team a needed jolt after a season that has already swung from a 4-0 start to back-to-back losses. The bigger picture around college football has been just as unpredictable, with results across several conferences reshuffling expectations almost every week, and Florida has managed to keep itself in the conversation despite the early turbulence.
With the bye week now in hand, the Gators are in a better spot than many projected before the season, both in the SEC race and in the overall record chase. The Texas victory did more than settle things down for a day, too, because it left Floridas preseason goals still within reach as the schedule moves into its next stretch. [Read more 🡒]
BYU Just Turned The Big 12 Race Into Something Much Bigger
A wild Saturday across college football sent shockwaves through the AP poll, and BYU was one of the biggest beneficiaries after upsetting Notre Dame to climb to No. 2. The chaos was unprecedented, with five of the top seven teams losing on the same day for the first time in AP history, and Miami surged to No. 1 after its double-overtime win against Florida State.
For Florida fans, the broader picture is just as striking because the Gators were part of a day that helped redraw the national conversation in a hurry. Ohio State held off Indiana, Tennessee beat Alabama, Florida knocked off Texas, and Auburn beat Georgia, turning what could have been a routine Saturday into a rankings reset that left the Big 12 race and the rest of the playoff picture looking far more volatile than before.
