Florida’s offensive line doesn’t get a soft landing after the Missouri loss. It gets another stress test, and South Carolina may be bringing back one of the nastiest edge threats in the country.
Dylan Stewart, who is widely viewed as the Gamecocks’ top defender and one of college football’s best pass rushers, has returned to practice. Shane Beamer still isn’t saying flat-out that Stewart will play in Week 6 at Florida, but he made it clear the door is open.
Beamer said, “Dylan, he and I have had some really open and honest and tough conversations in my office over the last week, and felt like he had earned the right to at least reappear and be a part of the team this week. What that means as we go forward, I think it's really truly day to day,” Beamer said.
For Florida, that adds another layer to an offensive front that took a step back in the 45-17 loss to Missouri. The Gators need a response, and Stewart would be a brutal place to start. If he’s out there and playing at the level South Carolina expects, he can wreck a game in a hurry.
And the challenge list doesn’t stop there.
Florida heads to Texas in Week 7, where Colin Simmons is waiting. The source material makes the comparison plain: if Stewart is the All-American level of difficulty, Simmons is Heisman-level hard. Simmons had FIVE sacks against Tennessee, which is why the Gators’ line can’t afford to treat Saturday as just another game.
Then comes the bye week, and after that, Georgia in Atlanta in Week 9. The Bulldogs, as described here, have monsters all over the field on defense.
That’s why Stewart’s possible return matters so much. Florida needs reps against top-tier resistance, and it needs them now.
The Missouri game exposed plenty, and the urgency around this stretch is obvious. Even before that loss, Florida fans had circled Texas and Georgia.
Some were even expecting the October 17th matchup with the Longhorns to be a top-five showdown.
Now, after Missouri showed how much still needs to be fixed, the bigger question is whether Florida will still be ranked by the end of the month.

Florida Is Chasing A Receiver Flip That Could Change Its Future Offense
Floridas search for an offensive lift is already stretching into the future, and Jon Sumralls latest move shows how aggressively the Gators are trying to shape it. The head coach hosted four-star wide receiver JaHyde Brown on a visit as Florida works to pull him away from Louisville for the 2027 class, a pursuit that speaks to how much value the staff sees in elite pass-catching talent as it looks ahead.
Brown is still committed to Louisville, but Florida has put itself in the conversation and will have to compete with Texas for his attention as well. For the Gators, this is about more than one recruiting battle. Landing a player with Browns profile could alter the ceiling of an offense that is trying to build something bigger, and that is why this flip effort is worth watching closely even before the real decision-making begins.
