A'mir Sears is moving up a class and moving toward a decision.
The Miami Columbus five-star athlete, ranked as the top football recruit in the class of 2028, told 247Sports that he is reclassifying to 2027 and has set a commitment date. After what will now be his senior season, the expectation is that he will position himself to enroll early at the school he chooses in December.
Sears is also down to a smaller group of finalists, though that list will not be revealed until just before he announces. He is set to make his commitment Friday at 5 p.m. ET on the .
His most recent trimmed list included Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Syracuse and Texas A&M.
On the field, Sears has already put together a strong résumé. As a sophomore, he posted 61 tackles, 11 pass breakups, three interceptions and a forced fumble on defense, while also contributing as a receiver with 42 catches for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The scouting report on Sears points to a player with rare versatility and plenty of upside. He was described as a “Best-kid-in-the-park type of athlete who plays with an edge.
Could be deployed in multiple roles but warrants a look at cornerback. Swallows up assignments with his length and wiry strength.
