The five-star wide receiver was on hand for Florida’s 52-28 dismantling of Ole Miss, and the timing could hardly have been better for the Gators. What was already set to be a big weekend turned into one of the loudest statements Florida has made in years, with the Swamp rocking and the offense rolling to a win that pushed the Gators into the AP top 10 for the first time in nearly six years.
For Royal, the impression was immediate.

That kind of reaction matters, especially this late in the process. Florida has been chasing Royal for more than a year, and the Gators have had plenty of chances to make their pitch.
He was on campus for the spring game in April. He also made an official visit over the summer.
Still, the Texas commit had not been moved enough to make a change.
Until now, maybe.
Royal’s recruitment has had LSU looming as a serious threat in recent weeks, with Florida seemingly losing ground. But what he saw Saturday gave the Gators a real shot to swing things back in their favor before the Early Signing Period arrives.
And there’s more to come. Florida heads to Austin on October 17 for what could be a massive top-five matchup between undefeated teams. That game could end up being another major checkpoint in Royal’s decision, and maybe even the one that settles it.
For now, though, he has plenty to think about from what Florida put on tape against Ole Miss. The Gators’ offensive playmakers were front and center, with Vernell Brown III, Dallas Wilson, Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark all getting the kind of usage that top receivers notice. Aaron Philo is still developing, but the quarterback’s trajectory is part of the appeal too.
If Royal needed proof that Florida can turn into something different, he got it Saturday. The Gators are selling themselves hard to the country’s best recruits, and at the same time Texas has been struggling on offense week after week. That contrast is hard to ignore.
Right now, Florida has momentum. Royal noticed.
