Florida is making a real push for one of the top receiver prospects in the 2028 class, and Tyree Manning Jr. appears to be leaning toward Gainesville.
According to Corey Bender of GatorsOnline, Florida has the best shot at landing the elite wideout. Rivals currently lists Manning as the No. 13 receiver and the No. 88 overall prospect in the 2028 class.
The Gators already have plenty to work with at receiver this season. First-year head coach Jon Sumrall will count on Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III and Eric Singleton Jr. to give starting quarterback Aaron Philo a strong group of targets. But Florida is also clearly thinking ahead, and Manning fits the kind of future playmaker the program wants to stockpile.
One of the biggest reasons for that interest is Florida receiver Marcus Davis, who has emerged as a major draw for Manning. Sumrall made it clear why Davis was such an important addition to the staff this year.
"Coach Davis not only brings SEC coaching experience to our staff, but playing experience as well," Sumrall said, via the Gators.
"He's a Florida native who was a team captain and has produced as both a player and coach. There's no doubt Coach Davis will prove to be a great addition for us."
Manning’s versatility has been part of his appeal for a while. In 2025, Venice High School wide receivers coach Amarri Jackson, Manning’s cousin and a former NFL player, described just how special the young receiver has been.
“Talent-wise, Tyree was always one of those kids that just had it,” Jackson said. “He was always a standout player.
"Whether it was at quarterback, running back, safety, kick returner, he could always do anything on the field. I don’t think anybody from the community we grew up in is surprised to see what he’s doing now.”
That kind of all-around ability is exactly what Florida wants as it builds for the future. If Manning does end up committing, the Gators would be adding a player with the athleticism to help in the receiver room and on returns, both of which matter in the SEC race and in the chase for the College Football Playoff.
