Florida Lands Oklahoma State Star WR After Quick Post-Visit Decision

Florida adds depth to its receiving corps with the transfer of a once-promising playmaker looking to reignite his college career.

Florida is adding some speed and explosiveness to its wide receiver room, landing a transfer commitment from Oklahoma State wideout Jaylen Lloyd. The junior made his decision shortly after visiting Gainesville, and while his numbers at Oklahoma State don’t jump off the page, there’s more to Lloyd’s game than what shows up on the stat sheet.

Let’s start with the basics: Lloyd is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver out of Omaha, Nebraska. He’s currently ranked No. 975 overall and No. 169 among wide receivers in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. On paper, that might not scream “game-changer,” but his early college career tells a more intriguing story.

Lloyd actually began his collegiate journey at Nebraska, where he flashed big-play potential in limited opportunities. As a true freshman, he hauled in 19 catches for 492 yards and three touchdowns.

That’s an eye-popping 25.9 yards per reception - a number that puts him in rare air when it comes to vertical threats. He also added 12 rushing yards on seven carries, showing a bit of versatility in how he can be used.

His breakout moments came in 2023, and they were loud. Lloyd’s career-long reception - a 73-yard touchdown - came in a win over Purdue.

He also torched Iowa’s defense for a 66-yard score in a narrow 13-10 loss. Those kinds of splash plays don’t happen by accident.

They speak to elite speed, timing, and the ability to separate - all traits that Florida’s offense could use more of.

After transferring to Oklahoma State, Lloyd didn’t see much action. In fact, he didn’t record a catch during his time there, with his only stat being a one-yard run in a loss to Houston.

But that lack of production doesn’t necessarily reflect his talent - sometimes it’s about fit, opportunity, or timing. Florida clearly sees something in him, and the Gators are betting on a bounce-back.

Lloyd was a three-star prospect coming out of Omaha Westside High School in the 2023 class. He was ranked as the No. 85 athlete nationally and the No. 9 overall recruit in Nebraska. That athleticism has always been his calling card, and with the right system and coaching, he could still tap into the potential that made him one of the Midwest’s more intriguing high school prospects.

His commitment also comes during a tightly regulated transfer window. The NCAA’s 2026 portal opened on Friday and closes January 16, marking the only period this year when players can submit their names - unless they’re participating in postseason play.

For those still active after January 12, there’s a five-day extension following their final game. It’s a more compressed system now, with the NCAA having done away with the spring window and requiring graduate transfers to stick to the same 15-day schedule as everyone else.

For Florida, this isn’t just about adding depth. It’s about injecting speed and upside into a receiver group that could use a vertical threat. Lloyd has shown he can stretch the field, and if he can recapture that Nebraska form, he might just become a sneaky-good pickup for the Gators heading into 2026.
