Florida’s recruiting run under Jon Sumrall picked up another big name when interior offensive lineman Samuel Bailey pledged to the Gators, giving the program its third commitment in a short burst of momentum.
The latest addition comes on the heels of safety Cyion Smith’s commitment just before the Ole Miss game. Smith, a Florida native, joined fellow in-state recruit Armani Strong as Sumrall’s first two recruits, and Bailey now gives the class another major piece.
According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Bailey is headed to Florida. That matters because this is not just another early commit - he’s the highest-rated player in the group by a wide margin.
Bailey, who plays for Jemison High School in Huntsville, Alabama, is Rivals’ No. 23 player in the class of 2028. He’s ranked No. 4 at his position and is the top player in Alabama. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound lineman also drew serious attention from Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, and Ole Miss.
For Florida, landing Bailey is a major statement. The Gators have now gone into Alabama and pulled out the state’s best player, something that hasn’t exactly been easy for this program in the past.
And the fit is obvious. If Florida is going to keep leaning into a physical identity, especially with someone like Jadan Baugh in the backfield, the offensive line has to be a priority. Bailey gives the class a front-line anchor and a player ranked among the top five offensive linemen in the country for good reason.
The class is still only three deep, but the quality is already turning heads. Smith, Strong, and Bailey all give Florida something to build around, and the early signs suggest Sumrall is putting together a group with real upside.
