Florida’s 44-39 win at Auburn did more than give the Gators their first SEC victory since 2023. It sent them rocketing up The Athletic’s latest re-rank.
Chris Vannini moved Florida from No. 31 to No. 16 after Week 3, a 15-spot climb that puts the Gators between USC at No. 15 and Utah at No. 17. Florida had hovered around Nos. 30 and 31 between the preseason and Week 2, but the Auburn result changed the picture fast.
The win also pushed Florida to 3-0 for the first time since 2019, a strong opening to the Jon Sumrall era as the Gators move deeper into SEC play.
The latest re-rank still shows the SEC packed near the top. Texas sits at No. 1, with Ole Miss right behind at No.

6, Alabama No. 8 and LSU No. 9, giving the league five teams in the top 10. Mississippi State checks in at No.
13, Tennessee at No. 14 and Florida at No. 16, giving the SEC eight teams in The Athletic’s top 25.
Just outside that group are Kentucky at No. 26, Texas A&M at No. 27 and Missouri at No. 29.
At the very top of the updated rankings, Texas is followed by Ole Miss, Miami, Ohio State and Indiana. Georgia, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU and BYU round out the top 10.
Texas Tech climbed to No. 11, Louisville to No. 12 and Mississippi State to No. 13, while Tennessee stayed inside the top 15 and Florida landed just behind USC after its big road win.
