Florida’s 52-28 demolition of Ole Miss did more than shake up the SEC race in the Swamp. It put a long list of elite recruits right in the middle of it, giving Jon Sumrall’s staff a chance to show what the program looks like when it’s rolling.
More than 70 highly rated targets were on campus for the game, including several five-stars from the 2027, 2028 and 2029 classes. The guest list also featured Florida commits, flip candidates and major in-state priorities, which made the night even bigger for a program trying to build on one of its most eye-catching wins in recent memory.
Sumrall said the momentum matters, but he also made clear Florida still has plenty of work ahead. Even so, he pointed to the recruiting crowd in the stands as a possible shortcut to getting the Gators back where they want to be.
“It's not asleep. But it ain't fully awake yet.
It's being kind of stirred up a little bit. So we're gonna get there.
But yeah, it's coming. Like, I promise you, I didn't come here for us to be average,” Sumrall answered a question on ‘waking up’ the sleeping giant of Florida football.
“... I will say this.
We had some recruits here this weekend. I mean, a recruiting list that we get a lot of those guys to say yes, we're going to wake the beast up real fast.”
A number of those prospects walked out of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium clearly impressed. Florida Gators on SI asked many of the visitors the same question: “One word for what you saw in the Swamp on Saturday?”
Among the players in attendance was Davidson, the 109th ranked player nationally and one of the leaders in Florida’s 2027 class. He’s viewed as a possible future quarterback for Sumrall and the staff.
Pearl, a top-100 wide receiver, was also there. He’s one of the state’s most dynamic playmakers and already has a strong connection with Davidson, with both of them looking ahead to linking up in the Swamp someday.
Blackshere, a 6-foot-3 safety from Miami, has been committed to UCONN for more than four months. The long defensive back has the kind of frame and upside that could push his stock even higher after a strong senior season.
Davis, the 23rd ranked player in the 2028 class and fifth-ranked wideout, hadn’t generated much buzz with Florida before this weekend. After Saturday, that seemed to change, with the receiver leaving intrigued.
Bailey, ranked 38th in the 2028 class, is one of the premier offensive tackle prospects in the country. The Alabama prospect checks in at 6-foot-5.5 and 290 pounds, and Florida has treated him like a major priority.
Edwards, the second-highest rated 2028 running back in the state, remains a key battleground recruit as Florida continues to fight Miami and other programs for the Jacksonville product.
Davis-Winn has been a major focus for offensive line coach Phil Trautwein. The Pennsylvania tackle is the top offensive tackle in his state and the 174th ranked player nationally. At 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds, he brings the kind of size that can anchor an SEC line for a long time.
Little, a Tampa product, is ranked 180th in his class and 20th among defensive linemen. As a sophomore in 2025, he put up 9.5 sacks and 61 total tackles.
Evans, one of several IMG targets for Florida in the 2028 class, is rated as the 13th safety in the country and 25th overall player in Florida. He’s already built a national profile, with invites to the Navy All-American Bowl, Adidas Polynesian Bowl and more.
Henderson, from Pensacola, is ranked as the 34th best player in Florida and the 27th edge in his 2028 class. LSU, Miami and Georgia are all involved, but Florida made a push over the weekend.
Flowers, another Jacksonville native, has been closely tied to the Gators and sits at No. 364 overall in the 2028 class. Florida State and Miami are among the many schools in the mix.
Gorham, the IMG wideout, is a top-50 player in Florida and a rare athlete at 6-foot-3.5 and 175 pounds. He also competes at a high level in track and field and basketball.
Taylor is already viewed as a Florida lean and ranks among the top 60 players in the state. The Vero Beach lineman measures 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, giving Gerald Chatman a massive body type to work with if he ends up in Gainesville.
Murray, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver, comes from the same high school as Gators star Dallas Wilson. He profiles as a polished wideout and could be the next Tampa-area name to land with Florida.
Coleman also brings plenty of upside as a receiver prospect. He already holds offers from Miami, Auburn, Ole Miss and others as he continues to develop.
