Florida is making an early run at one of the biggest names in the 2028 class, and Braylon Clark has already emerged as a priority for Jon Sumrall’s staff.
Clark, a five-star wide receiver from Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C., is the kind of offensive talent that can shape a recruiting class before it even fully takes form. Florida has been working hard on the 2028 trail this summer, and Clark is quickly becoming one of the names drawing the most attention from Gators fans.
The North Carolina standout is currently ranked by 247Sports’ Composite as the No. 2 prospect in his state and the No. 4 wide receiver in the 2028 cycle. At 6-foot-2 and 188 pounds, he already brings the frame and athletic profile college staffs want in a future difference-maker.
Clark’s production backed up the hype in 2025. After showing promise as a freshman, he broke out with 65 catches for 1,093 yards and 12 touchdowns during his sophomore season. That performance also earned him an early invitation to the 2027 Adidas Polynesian Bowl, where he’ll get a chance to line up against some of the nation’s top prospects.
His game shows up in more than one way. Clark can stretch the field, and he’s also dangerous in contested-catch situations, giving him value at all three levels of the offense.
Florida won’t have an easy path, though. Ohio State, Oregon and Tennessee are all in the mix as the Gators try to win over one of the most coveted receivers in the country.
The staff has already made a strong start with the 2028 class by landing four-star wide receiver Armani Strong. If Florida can add Clark too, the early foundation of that cycle starts looking awfully promising.
Meanwhile, Sumrall’s push on the future is happening alongside a strong run in 2027 recruiting. Since arriving in Gainesville in December, he and his staff have collected 24 commitments in that class, including five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.
