Florida’s showdown with Ole Miss on Saturday is about more than the scoreboard.
The No. 21 Gators are back home in the Swamp for a top-25 matchup with No.
4 Ole Miss, and the recruiting guest list is loaded. Both teams come in unbeaten in SEC play after surviving one-possession games in Week Three, but Florida’s bigger stage this weekend may be the one set for a crowd of elite prospects.
Ole Miss already got its turn last weekend when LSU came to town. Now the attention shifts to Gainesville, where Florida is expected to host a wave of blue-chip visitors, according to On3’s Corey Bender, Blake Alderman and Steve Wiltfong.
Among the most important names on the list are three highly touted commits elsewhere: New Orleans Brother Martin five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, Orlando Jones four-star edge Frederick Ards III and Duncan, South Carolina, Byrnes four-star running back Tre Segarra. Royal stands out as the biggest draw of the group.
He’s pledged to Texas, but LSU and Florida have stayed in the mix, and the Gators appear to be the team chasing from behind. This weekend could matter a lot in that race.
Ards III is another major target. Florida pushed hard for him early after Jon Sumrall took over, and the Gators were in a strong spot before the picture shifted over the summer and he committed to Texas A&M.
Florida is also bringing in a pair of Florida State commits: Springfield, Georgia, St. Frances Academy four-star safety Jernard Albright and Miami Gardens Carol City four-star athlete Za’Kari Johnson.
The Gators are nearing the finish line with their 2027 class, though they could still add a few more pieces. Even so, the long-term focus is starting to tilt toward the next two cycles.
That’s why 2028 Jacksonville Mandarin five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright matters so much. He has been a priority for Sumrall since the coach arrived, and Florida is still very much in the hunt. Wright had been weighing a trip to Coral Gables this weekend to see Miami, but Wiltfong confirmed with Wright’s father that he will be in Gainesville instead.
There’s more underclassman firepower coming too. Florida is set to host 2028 Tampa Carrollwood Day four-star EDGE Antonio Thomas, 2028 Cartersville High four-star wide receiver Madoxx Davis, 2028 Bradenton IMG Academy four-star linebacker Andre Alexander, 2029 Tampa Carrollwood Day four-star cornerback James Allen and 2029 Milton High four-star offensive lineman Landon Ghea.

Jadan Baugh gave Florida a needed spark in the first half against Ole Miss, scoring twice and helping keep the Gators in the fight early. But the more pressing storyline for Florida has been at receiver, where Bailey Stockton took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Ole Miss safety Joenel Aguero, who was ejected for targeting, and the Gators had to keep moving without full certainty at a position group already being tested.
Stockton appears set to return in the third quarter, which is at least a relief for a Florida offense that cannot afford to keep losing bodies on the perimeter in a game this important. Eric Singleton Jr. and Vernell Brown III are also dealing with injuries that have affected their playtime, leaving Florida to piece together answers while trying to keep pace with an Ole Miss team that has already forced the Gators to adjust on the fly.
