On Saturday, Gainesville was buzzing with excitement as some of the nation's top prospects visited the campus to catch a glimpse of practice and engage with the coaching staff.
Among them was defensive back Zayden Gamble from Fort Lauderdale's St. Thomas Aquinas. Standing at 6-0 and weighing 190 pounds, Gamble had the opportunity to immerse himself in the Gators' environment and connect with the entire coaching team.
Reflecting on his experience, Gamble shared, “It was a great visit. We got to watch practice, go into the meeting rooms, and talk to Coach Jon Sumrall and the rest of the coaches.”
Gamble was particularly impressed by the energy and competitiveness on the field. “It was very intense,” he observed.
“The practice was filled with energy; guys were flying around having fun. It definitely stood out to me-very competitive and they were definitely getting after it.”
His focus was on the safety group, and he paid close attention to safeties coach Chris Collins. “I watched Coach Collins mainly,” Gamble noted.
“It was great learning and watching him teach. He’s very poised and stays calm, really focusing on the details.
Watching him coach was inspiring because he could potentially be my coach for the next three or four years.”
Coach Collins made it clear why the Gators are eager to have Gamble join their ranks. “He wants me, there’s nothing more I can say besides those three words,” Gamble explained.
“He appreciates my physicality and instincts, which he believes will translate well to the next level. He values my football IQ and the way I attack the ball.”
Head coach Jon Sumrall also spent time with Gamble, emphasizing a holistic approach to recruitment. “He wants me to be a Gator,” Gamble said of Sumrall’s message.
“But it’s more than just football. He genuinely cares about me as a person.
He said something that stuck with me: ‘Wherever you go, we know you’re going to be that guy.’”
As of now, the Gators are leading in Gamble's recruitment journey, though other programs are vying for his attention. “They’re number one right now,” he stated, while mentioning Miami, Notre Dame, and Ohio State as other strong contenders.
Gamble plans to make his decision after taking official visits, with a commitment date set for July 16th, ahead of his senior year.
